If the Bible says that Love keeps no record of wrongs, then why does God keep records of our wrongs if God loves us?

I understand now, God doesn't really keep record of our wrongs after we ask for forgiveness. But he will try to keep us in place if we mess up?

Sorry HUFFYB but the last time I remembered sins are wrongs and wrongs are sins. They are both committing something that is wrong. A person may wrong you with a sin, wronging someone is a sin because we are to be carefull to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.

God loves, but that doesn't make Him a cardboard character. Because He loves us, He hates what we do to hurt others. He loves good; this means He hates evil. God is love; He is also a God who loves justice.

If we do wrong, God will remember the deed and will help us to confess it and repent so that He can wash it away. For that reason, He does not remember forever! When we repent of our sin and submit to walk with God in faith, then is the promise true to us, "your sins and iniquities will I [God] remember no more."

As for the verse in quote in 1 Cor. 13, love keeps no record of wrongs in the sense that a mature Christian will continue to have mercy and show kindness toward someone who does not seem to deserve it. This attitude comes about when a Christian realizes how much God has forgiven her. Her response is to show mercy to other sinners like herself.

Here is the honest to God Truth but you will have to study for yourself and not listen to religious man made opinions of their teachings, but read the new testament in your Bible, if you have one. God keeps records of those who sins that He Judges Against. He will Judge All Accordingly of the way people have lived their lives, but the one's that don't have to worry about are the one's that believe Jesus Washed Away Their Sins Under The Blood That He Shed For Them On The Cross, His Blood Washes Away Sins, So That He Would Remember Them No More. God Remembers Why He Sacrificed His Own Son So That People Would Be Saved By Him, And Their Sins Would Be Forgotten And Never Remembered Again. People Who Dont Practice What They Preach And Go Against Those Teachings In Scriptures Will Be Judged A Whole Different Way Because They Did Not Follow The Authority Of How To Bring The Truth.

If you confess your sins to God and ask His forgiveness, then He forgives and forgets. There is no record of those wrong doings kept by God. "He erased the cirtificate of debt, with its obligations, that was against us and opposed to us, and has taken it out of the way by nailing it to the cross." Colossians 2:14. Even all the sins that go unconfessed are nailed to that cross. I asume when you say He keeps a record of wrong doings, you are talking about Judgement Day when He says all will be judged acording to their deeds. (Rev 9:13) Those who face the lake of fire will have to be purged because they had not confessed and let Christs sacrifice take away their sins. It is said that those whose names were not written in His book of life are the ones who face judgment. When a person comes to Christ, He gives them new life. When people face judgement in the lake of fire, it will be according to their deeds, meaning, that what they have done will determine how long they are punished. But when that purging process is complete, they will enter the Kindom of God. Eventually, all people will be with God forever, regardless of what they have done. This is because Christ made peace with ALL THINGS by the blood of His cross. ( Colossians 1:19-20) So God really has forgiven all things. But those who are unrepentant will have a price to pay for having stayed dead in thier sins. But if anyone, no matter what they have done, goes to God for forgiveness, they will recieve it.

God reminds us that Love doesn't take into account a wrong suffered, Because Jesus suffered the punnishment of all sin so that all may one day be reunited with Him. Anyone who believes in eternal punnishment may have a hard time answering your question. But this is yet another reason why God can not punnish forever or else He is a hypocite at best, and evil, at worst.

EDIT: The answer to "huffyb"s question. It is 1 Corinthians 13:5

Where does the BIBLE SAY Love keeps no record of wrongs...must be a different translation? I am familiar with the text that says GOD casts our sins into the sea of forgetfulness and remembers them no more. But try to understand that sin is sooooo bad That GOD could save us only by giving HIS SON to die for us. Sins cast a shadow on our lives. GOD does not want us to sin for that very reason. Please don't think that we can sin and get forgiven, because that is dangerous. GOD forgives us, but the sin will haunt us afterwards. that is what is hard to deal with. that is why Peter said to repent, and be baptized. he didn't say be baptized, he said repent first.

"the sea of forgetfulness"? It is like getting pregnant as a result of sin. A 14 yr old girl can readily receive forgiveness for the act itself but there may be consequences later on because of the action. God wouldn't take away the baby, the baby will grow as a result of natural processes. The original act itself can be readily forgiven and therefore forgotten and wiped away from our slate so to speak. In fact it is often very difficult to forgive oneself in incidents like this one. You have to ask for forgiveness though. This is key.
One religion keeps a record so to speak of the good and bad things we have done. So to atone they are willing to blow themselves up to balance the tab for all the bad things they have done. Christianity wipes the slate clean through the blood of Jesus. Because we all have more on the negative side than the positive. What we term flesh. Being born again we can live above sin for the most part. None are perfect still. We then choose to trust our lives to Jesus. Jesus has the power, the right, and cares for us enough to forgive SIN.

No offense taken, God does not keep record of our wrongs (sins) the word of God tells us clearly that He forgives us of all our sin and remembers them no more. It's people who tend to remember someones past sins and continually bring them up.

At judgement the books are opened and all unsaved are listed and will have to answer for all the bad things they have done in their life. The saved are also listed but when they accepted Christ as their lord and saviour all their bad deads were erased from the books, at the point of acceptance they became a new creation in Christ, all past sins were wiped away as if they never happened, Jesus paying the sin debt for us on the cross made this possible for all who will believe.

I was having a discussion similar to this last night. It seems that everyone knows that God is meant to be a loving God, and a gracious God. But is God is also a just God, a righteous God, and a holy God. God loves us so much, that He sacrficed His only Son so that we all might be saved. However, because He loves us, He is not going to force it on to us. Neither can He accept anyone who hasn't accepted that gift of salvation into heaven, because He is a holy God. He is willing to wipe the record clean of all the wrongs we do, but we have to accept it.

Slightly going out on a whim, but would you say your father loves you? or your mother? But they keep records of wrong, simple because they love you, and they want you to learn and become a wonderful, strong person. it's the same with God, He wants you to become wonderful and strong.

God doesn't keep a record of our wrongs. Shaitan is the accuser, it is his job to keep such records. God has promised that He will put your sins as far from Him as the East is from the West...a rather quaint way of putting it, I think.
I'm not worried about Shaitan's records of my sins, because I know I have an Advocate. My Defender is so much stronger than my Prosecutor....

If we ask forgiveness He says He will cast our sins to the depth of the ocean never to be remembered again.
