you cant.
if you are already feeding them a healthy diet of raw meat, raw bones and a good quality dry dog food like you should be, then the only thing you can do is brush them daily to get some of the hair off them before it gets all over your house.

How long has he been shedding? Has this been ongoing since you've had your dog? If not, is he scratching? If he is scratching and loosing hair, he might have the mange (I think that's how you spell it). Your local vet can dip him and he'll be good as new. Although, if this has been an ongoing process, your dog is probably just a shedder. If you have a backyard, maybe let him run and play out there instead of keeping him in the house all the time. However, if it is very cold outside where you leave, I suggest keeping him inside, nomatter how bad he sheds. Try calling your vet if you're concerned. That is what they are there for.

Shedding usually stops as it gets colder outside. I did not have a basset house but a beagle. They shed all summer long and the hot it gets the more hair off the dog. Brush as the other people say to keep the hair off the floro and furniture. But, you wil have to dela with this till the fost comes back at your house.

First- have them checked out with your vet - to eliminate any possible skin conditions. Next make sure to brush them on a regular basis and use lanolin (or another coat treatment to maintain moisture and a healthy coat) . Some dogs, regardless of breed, shed more than others. Age may also play a role as well as diet....Hope this helps.

Thats a common trait of bassets... they shed alot!! You can bathe and brush her frequently to help but you cant prevent. There might be a medication she can take to help too.

you can't prevent the shedding, but if you brush them (outside) at least their hair won't be all over the inside of your house. This is the time of year that they shed, since the weather is getting warmer. I brush my dogs outside whenever I think about it.
