It sounds a bit cowardly, why were you in the fox hole in the first place. For your information God has appointed a time for everyone to die, so if He spared you, it wasnt your time yet.

nope, just survival instinct. it's not that you suddenly became a believer, just that your drive to survive includes trying anything at all, no matter how unreasonable, just so you try something and keep fighting to hang on to life.
plus, god is a sort of booster word in the english language. we use it all the time, for emphasis. i don't believe in god and i use it., because i hear it, it's a sort of idiomatic expression. i say "o my god", "god bless you", "in the name of god", and any number of similar expressions.
