is marriage the symbol for love? Not necessarily, some marry just for companionship, some for money, some parents arrange marriages for their children in some cultures doesnt always work out.

You can still be a loving person without getting married as long as you are not self centered and think of others beside yourself.

I have always love that.
From a non-religious person I still say yes...but much more than that.
It is a symbol of love beyond logic.
Its a love that forms an everlasting partnership.
And in a way its a contract that says no matter what you will strive to hang on to that love and friendship.

Marriage is a partnership of two souls and sometimes they just don't work out... Love, you can love a variety of things both inanimate and animate... I really can't see a purpose of getting married, if you don't love the other person..
Stop reading that silly book you quoted from and start thinking for yourself...Then you might just experience it...
Love and Light... BB.. )O(

Marriage can be a symbol of love but not the only one. Marriage can be a symbol of love if the relationship is based on "no expectations" and is not based on mutual gratifications..

dont believe so. I think that marriage has to do with commitment and knowing that you already share a bond but you want to be the other persons only one. Love has a lot to do with marriage but I dont believe it is the symbol for it.

This love described here is the perfect love. Humans can attain this love through their children, but not their spouses. We are too imperfect for that. Our love for our children though, Endures All things, no matter what.

the funny thing is Love has no one symbol but ALL symbols...

Marriage is a symbol for unification of opposites and thus a synthesis of Thesis and Antithesis... Most people have forgotten this wondrous thing.
