To be a smart health care consumer, you need to ensure the health care professional you see will be able to recognize an anxiety disorder. While mental health treatment can potentially be received from a wide range of professionals, including primary care physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers, you may want to consider seeking out an anxiety specialist-in particular someone who can offer the types of treatments that have been found to be most successful, such as cognitive behavioral therapy and medications.

You can contact the Anxiety Disorders Association of America or the Association for Advancement of Behavior Therapy to find professionals specializing in anxiety.

That's a psychiatrist. Or a psychologist. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (M.D.) and can also write prescriptions IF needed. (They aren't always needed). A psychologist is a doctor of psychology (Ph.D.). Either one would be really good and could really help you with your phobia.
