Manic Panic isn't as good for dark hair as the Raw brand (I believe it's called) sold at Hot Topic stores and on their website. It stays in your hair a lot longer--I've used it to color my hair purple many times.

Generally if a color is light and bright, you have to use bleach. If it's a dark color, you can just paint it on your hair for lovely highlights. Be sure that you know what you're getting into with bleach because it permanently opens the cuticle of the hair, meaning it will never be the same color as the other hair until it grows out naturally and you cut it. Most hair color you put on your hair lifts the cuticle and deposits the coloring into your hair but bleach strips the color, and the life, from your hair.

Aftercare is very very important. Once you've gotten tired of the pink, or it has faded, deep conditioning is key. You'll have to color your bleached hair to match your natural color so make sure to get hair color that's a little darker than your natural color, because the color will fade slightly, after applying it to bleached hair.

As for the actual coloring, be sure to mix the powdered bleach in a glass bowl--it eats plastic and causes a chemical reaction with metal. Paint it on your hair with a highlighting brush. A lot of it is heat activated so you'll have to wrap your hair in foil, blow dry the bleach on a medium heat setting, and keep peeking at it to make sure that it reaches the color you want. Most bleach comes with a violet toner which will mute the loud yellow tones. When applying the color, also use the brush but this time put some petroleum jelly around your hair line so you don't color your face. Manic Panic tends to come out on your cell phone, pillows, and where ever your head is pressed so be careful. Clean up any color stains on your face or items with rubbing alcohol.

I hope this helps! Any more questions feel free to email me! :)

I did flourescent green one time. My hair was spiked.
Unless your hair is lighter, the bright colors won't show up as well. Get you some streaks first (I recommend platinum blonde streaks). Go a little wider with the streaks, so they will show up better.
Condition your hair well for a day or two, & then add your hot pink.
Then it'll show up awesome! ;)
The pink will eventually fade & need to be re-dyed, but the blonde streaks will still be there.

yes!! & even if u bleach your hair, "manic panic" usually washes out pretty quick...i have dark brown/almost black hair & regularly used to use "manic panic"...it was a pain, because about every other week i had to touch up my color...now i`m using "special effects" brand, which is much better!!! i use their "atomic pink" color, & it really lasts...i dyed my hair 2 months ago & my color is still bright!!! so, i would recommend using "manic panic" flash lightning kit for the bleaching, & get the "special effects" hair color...u can usually find it at hot topic, or on ebay...here`s their website...

No, it will not stay for ever...

But bleaching your hair before dying it is the best way to get better results... Altough you want to wait a while (about 2 days) to continue with the dye.

Good Luck!

if your hair is really dark.it doesnt stay forever, if you have dark hair, after a while it turns into like a yellowish blond. its kinds kool, cuz i used to have the bottom half of my hair red, but i didnt feel like dying it anymore, and when the red faded and eventually went away, i have blond their, and if i feel like dying it again, i can just go and get some purple or blue dye. and my sister had streaks of red that faded, but its blond now, so she could re-dye it too if she wanted
