Parvo can survive outside in the environment for up to 1.5 years. so if you have had an animal with parvo, you need to keep all other dogs and pups away from your yard for at least 1.5 years... even if the other dog is no longer there.

so yes, a dog can catch parvo from another infected dogs food.

if i had a dog that had had its shots, but would come into contact with parvo, I would take it to the vet and get a Teeter done, which is a test to make sure it is still immune to the disease..

even if the other dog has had its shots, why would you risk it?

Parvo can exist in the environment for months or even years, so in theory it would be possible to catch parvo from using another dog's bowls. If your dog is vaccinated against parvo I think it would be unlikely, but you can't be too careful where parvo is concerned,.

If you've had a dog that has had parvo you need to throw out all food bowls and toys that were used and thoroughly disinfect the whole environment (including outside) with a parvocidal disinfectant.

Yes, Parvo is extremely contagious and very dangerous to young dogs especially. It can be found in just about anything a dog may come into contact with. I've had many dogs die years back simply because it was in the ground of where our farmhouse was.
Get your dog to a vet right away since it is very treatable if caught early.
Though as a little tidbit, when I was in high school we raised hound dogs and to of our puppies became ill due to the parvo in the ground. My dad took them to the vet and was told they were too far dehydrated and malnourished from nto eating and drinking it was best to put them down. Well, my father being a determined and stubborn man didn't want to give up and decided to try just one last crazy idea.
He went to the store and bought some Gatorade and gave it ot the pups. They were so weak they just placed their heads on the bowl and my dad slowly fed them through a turkey baster until they lapped it up on their own.
Come the next morning they were up and running and though still a bit weak, could eat and drink without any problems. My dad then went ot the vet, told him what happened, got the final little medication just to speed up the healing and went on his way. They lived long and very active lives.
So don't give up. The dehydration and starvation are the actual killers of the parvo virus. If you can make sure they get those much needed nutrients and liquids they can pull through.

Shots prevent Parvo.

Parvo spreads VERY easily. Contaminated food will infect all non-vaccinated dogs.

Call your Vet! Parvo is a serious disease. Your Vet should be answering these questions. I've seen a person describe themselves as a Vet Assistant one day and a Vet Surgeon on another day. You don't know who you are talking to. This is very serious. Please seek professional help for the sake of your dog! The longer you wait the more apt he is to DIE. Your Vet will instruct when it is time to feed your dog. Right now it probably needs I.V. fluids with added pain meds, anti nausea meds and antibiotics, etc. But I AM NOT A VET. I do know though, that you should seek a VET's help on this. Please do! For those that treat at home with parvaid, you will notice that several other products are recommended in tandem with the parvaid as well as antibiotics which you have to get from a Vet. I've seen sites with do it yourself parvo tea. I am sorry but I wouldn't put my dog's life on the line with homemade remedies and hocus pocus.

Parvo is extremely contagious, take your dog to the vet immedietly. Let them know your situation because they will have to make sure the waiting room is clear. It is deadly, take him now!
