I have mixed sunscreen together before with good results, but I was wondering if anybody knew for sure whether the result would be higher or lower sun protection.

Higher than 15. Lower than 30. Lather on liberally and often.

Spf 15 covers you with complete sun protection for 15 minutes; Spf 30 cover you for 30 minutes. You probably ended up with weak spf 30 or strong spf 15

SPF refers to the amount of protection from the sun not minutes of protection, mixed together would dilute the higher spf factor therfore less protection.
