I have seen many fainting clips but have not heard one explanation as to why people, especially men, pass out at the altar.

It usually involves people who haven't been eating and drinking properly, because they've been so involved in the wedding preparations. This affects their blood sugar and the amount of water in their body, making them better candidates for fainting. They've also been standing, often tensely, for a long time during the ceremony. People who stand for a long time with their knees locked may also be prone to faint from the effect of blood pooling in their legs.

I've only known of one person who fainted at a wedding and that was a bride and not the groom. It could happen to both or anyone in the wedding party even!

Most women get caught in the details and forget to eat. They also have not been eating trying to fit in dresses. So in the middle of the day, with all the hustle and hoopla, they get weak, blood sugar drops and the faint. Men, I think faint out of fear, that is fear of commitment.lol.

mostly nerves.. when its the girls, sometimes they don't eat well before the wedding because they diet and want to look their best, the nerves and stress on their body sometimes does this
men on the other hand have to wait for the bride to get to the alter, brides are often 'traditinally late' because they want to make an enterance.. the men are prob freaking out hopeing they will actually turn up.. very bad nerves

the actual ceremony is extremely stressful!

the chapel may be warm, the bride and groom are overdressed and nervous, you have a building full of guests and you are hoping that everything will flow like clockwork; you're standing up for long periods of time...getting married is an overwhelming experience! its like sitting for the SAT's or GRE's or LSAT's times 1000 all in one afternoon!

Because:

they lock their knees
they do not eat or drink in the excitement
they're super nervous
