just don't straighten it everyday.
wash every other day to give your hair a break as well.
and make sure you condition! and condition!
and just don't hold it in any one place too long.

1. Buy a salon-quality flat iron. I recommend the Solia, which has plates made with tourmaline (better than ceramic). Costs $88 but Folica.com, but so worth it.
2. After you get out of the shower, evenly distribute a heat protectant (or two) throughout your hair. My favorite combo is L'Oreal Hot Straight and Infusium 23 Original leave-in conditioner.
3. Its best to let your hair dry itself, but you can use a blow-dryer sometimes.
4. Flat iron your hair, moving the iron quickly.
5. At leat pick a few days a week not to use a flat iron or blow dryer......and go get your hair cut/trimmed as soon as you see the first split end.
(Many people are scared of flat irons, but they are more than worthwhile tools as long as they're not abused....)

pull out some hair

If you are one of them, follow these tips to straighten them.
Wash and condition hair regularly.
Press dry. Ensure your hair is nearly dry when you start.
Divide your hair in many parts and tie your hair above your head. You should dry the lower layers first.
Draw the brush of your dryer down the parts of hair while you keep on straightening each portion. Your dryer should be moving throughout.
Repeat this process with each section.
