I havent been really active and I want to go on a diet and maybe try some exercise to lose weight. Where should I begin? What should I read or try and why?

well first off dont listen to those magazines that say "Be thin by summer" cuz everyones body is different and responds to exercise differently. u shud go to a dietician or ur doctor and maybe he can help put u on the right track on how to eat right and how to exercise right

You should definitely do what you already like, so you never get vored with exercising. If you like kickboxing, do that with lessons or DVDs. Or maybe you like bellydancing, or hip hop dancing, or weight lifting. Indulge in a sport fantasy you've always wanted to pursue. If you don't have any, now's the time to find one. Rent a bunch of exercise DVDs until you find what you like.

Always eat plenty of food. You shouldn't ever feel hungry, but you should also never feel stuffed. Eat small amounts often throughout the day. Take up snacking, but snack on carrots, celery, apples, grapes, ect. You'll do great! Get excited about all the weight you'll lose!

I WAS FAT ALL MY LIFE EXCEPT FOR THE TIME I SPENT IN THE UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS..THEY HAVE AN EXCELLENT PLAN FOR WHAT THEY CALL FAT BODYS ...EAT ALL YOU WANT AND NEVER STOP MOVEING... IN 3 MONTHS TIME U WILL LOSE EVERY OUNCE YOU WANTED AND YOU WILL BE HUNGRY ..SO DO 250 PUSHUP AND 250 PULLUPS .RUN AT LEAST 15 MILES BEFORE BREAKFAST ..THEN EAST A GOOD BREAKFAST ... STAY BUSY AND DONT DRINK COLA ..
MY DAUGHTER IS 24 AND BEAUTIFUL BUT WAS ALWAYS CHUBBY UNTIL 2 YEARS AGO WHEN SHE QUIT DRINKING PEPSI AND COKE AND ANY THING SUCH AS..HER SKIN WAS PRETTY ALREADY BUT NOW IT GLOWS ..I HAVE NOT DRANK A COLA IN MONTHS AND IT IS NOT EASY BUT WITH THE HELP OF BOTTLED WATER IT WAS NOT SO HARD ..SOMETIMES I DO SLIP AND BUY A COKE OR PEPSI TO GET SOME ENERGY..
BUT GOSH .MY DAUGHTER IS PROOF THAT COLA ADDS AT LEAST 30 POUNDS TO A NORMAL PERSON WHICH IS HOW MUCH SHE WAS OVER WEIGHT UNTIL SHE WENT COLA LESS ..YOU SHOULD SEE HER GLOW

The atkins diet really works I did it and lost weight fast, but i dont really thing that it is all that healthy. NO CARBS OR SUGAR at all for 2 weeks. Then you gradually add in a super small anout of each over time.

Maybe you could do that just to get you started. I had lots of energy while I was on it.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Weight Watchers is very easy to follow and is very reasonable. It's not a diet, it changes the way you'll eat for the rest of your life without starving yourself.
