I am probably biased since I grew up watching Tyson absolutely pummel his opponents, but I think Tyson has Ali. My Dad idolizes Ali and says there is no way Tyson would even land a blow, but I beg to differ. Tyson was an absolute pitbull. Yeah it would have been hard fro him to get inside with Ali, but if he got just one hook in there Ali would have been done. Who?

Tyson would have landed punches. For sure = it is a boxing match.

But consider this = every technically skilled boxer that had a versatile game and had speed that faced Tyson has beaten him. Tyson was a ragging pitbull, true. And that overpowered almost all of his opponents. Those that had speed and range could keep him at bay... and win the fight.

Speed and range... Technically skilled... Versatile puncher... Look that up in a dictionary and a picture of Ali is next to it.

Also, consider that the era Ali ruled saw more quality heavy weight fighters vrs the era Tyson ruled.

Ali in the 8th round

Tyson has problems with guys who can take a punch. His fights rarely lasted very long because he hits so hard. Once he ran into someone who could make it past the 6th round, Tyson seemed to have spent his energy on all of those canon blasts he'd been sending ealrier in the fight. Tyson, low on ammunition at this point had to actually box instead of attack and he doesn't seem to be that good at it.

Ali COULD take a punch. Ali COULD box. Ali could also attack when he saw the opportunity to do it. He was a more patient fighter and didn't use up his energy in the early rounds. Ali had a much better presence both on and out of the ring and handled himself with more dignity and control than Tyson could possibly imagine. Ali would win the fight because he is that much smarter of a boxer. The reason people still see Ali in the way they do is because he is much smarter as a man.

Sorry, your father is right.

By the way, my Grandfather, if he were alive today would also be right, Joe Louis would kick Tysons butt.

You know in my opinion Tyson's best years was when he was on way up in the Heavyweight ranks(1985 -1986) you seen a focused Teenager, not said what he did outside the ring that is different but in the ring he was focused. Ali has fought good quality opponents and continued fighting way past his prime and still did a good job except his last two fights. In his prime Ali was way too quick with hand and foot movement. I think a prime Joe Frazier would not have gotten to Ali in his prime years. Tyson would not even graze Ali.You know your dad is right... Ali has what Tyson never did have and that was HEART. Enough said....

Ali would have killed Tyson, period!........Name one big fight Tyson has won? I keep sayng this but and people still can't comprehend it but MIKE TYSON WAS OVERRATED! Yes he was probably one of the most exciting fighters of his time but not one of the all-time top champions. All Tyson had was a plan-A,(KO) if that did not work he didn't know what to do? If his opponent was not scared and stood up to the bully then he would quit or cheat to try and win. Ali had more heart than Tyson even dreamed of having and that alone would have allowed him to win this fight. All big Tyson fans are still blinded by that fake aura of invincibility that he once had, back in the day the man wanted no parts of Riddick Bowe! It was also well documented that during the1984 Olympic trials that while there, Tyson was doing his normal deal of bullying and intimidating the other fighters, when he tried to take "next" in a game of pool from Evander Holyfield and with the whole village watching "the real deal" stood up to Tyson and punked him, CALLED HIS BLUFF and made Tyson leave with his "tail between his legs"! From that point back in the 1980's Tyson knew he couldn't beat Evander! Once again; THE MAN WAS OVERATED!!!!

There's no denying that Tyson was a beast back in the day. Don King ruined him. When Cus was alive, Tyson used to check on his opponent and thank him for the fight after he knocked the hell out of whoever the victim was. Once Cus died, Don King made Iron Mike disrespectful and greedy.

If Cus was still alive when Tyson was in his prime and he trained him all the way up to Ali, it can be a different story... Tyson is extremely fast for his size. Ali may have been one of the best, but like Tyson says " Theres no reason to be discouraged if someone can take your best shot, theres always someone out there like that, just keep going until your heart blows out "

As was exposed with Buster Douglas, I believe that Ali would eventually take the fight to him and he'd be stopped. I agree that Tyson was indeed a pummeller and would be ferocious but let's also factor in Ali's fight against Foreman, (who still knocked out most of his people in the heavyweight division after he had already reached 40) Ali could take it as well as dish it, unlike Tyson. And I also believe that his stamina would just destroy Tyson. To remember they boxed 15 rounds in Ali's prime, and that Tyson was a straight two-round type of fighter. Get past that and Tysons probably finished.

Ali would have beat Tyson. Tyson would never get the chance to land a heavy hook or uppercut because Ali would have kept him at a distance with his jab(a punch Tyson NEVER had). Ali would box Tyson not brawl with him.

Ali would not have been indimidated by Tyson and would have worn him out. When Tyson was in his prime, he had not fought nearly the level of fighters that Ali had fought to get to his prime years. Tyson hit hard and was a very fast puncher. However, like Foreman, Ali could have really gotten into Tyson's head by not boxing him. He would have made Tyson frothing mad before the fight, and what we know now, Tyson's head was very vulnerable. Tyson was a lot faster than George Foreman, but I don't think that he was fast enough to win.

Hmm good question,Tyson in his early days always had a psychological edge, but when Buster Douglas actually stood up and had a go back his aura waned, personally i think Ali would be too clever for Tyson, just like Holyfield and Lewis were,so sorry but i would have to say Ali.
