i'm a dentist. it's ok to brush everytime you eat, but you need to have the correct brushing techniques (aim 45 degrees towards the gumline) and do not brush too hard. Brushing too hard will cause wear on the enamel and also recession. When the roots are exposed due to recession, the tooth is more sensitive to hot/cold.

Overbrushing, like scrubbing, can hurt your enamel and cause gum recession. My dentist recommends to brush after every meal but says 2 times a day is also fine. Brush gently and be gentle on the gums. Use a soft bristle brush. Remember to floss also.

You can brush that much if you like, just use caution so you don't cause a more serious problem with toothbrush abrasion of the tender gum tissue causing recession. Also be sure to incorporate flossing into your brushing at least once a day preferably at bed time. Hope I've been of some help and good luck!

Well, I'm not a dentist, but I'll tell you my own experience: I was having really bad tooth sensitivity at the base of my teeth and the edges of my gums, and my dentist told me I was brushing too hard, too vigorously. So, I suppose if you brush gently and with care it will be alright, but maybe you should use a soft brush and don't get too carried away with the scrubbing.

It depends on what you are brushing with and how you are brushing. You certainly can damage your teeth and gums with a hard brush or a heavy-handed assault on them. Your dentist or hygienist can watch you brush and advise you on the proper method. I recommend a Sonicare ultrasonic electric toothbrush. Let it do the job for you. Don't press hard enough to damage the brush head and you won't hurt your teeth either.

I know some people who brush after every meal. I do not think it would be harmful. If you brush too hard and fast, then I think you would have a problem...Probably sensitivity to the teeth.

HELLO,
WELL IF YOU EAT 4-5 TIMES PER DAY AND YOU BRUSH AFTER EACH MEAL, YOU'RE DOING OK.
JUST MAKE SURE YOU USE A SOFT TOOTHBRUSH AND GENTLE PRESSURE.

No, you really can not over brush your teeth, as long as you don't do it so hard you irritate your gums.

Yes, you can over do it, in my opinion.

A lot of it could depend upon the type of foods you're eating, too.

4-6 times a day is ok if you use a soft or medium brush and don't brush very hard.
