Very good question. And that is where evolution comes in. I had heard Adam means red clay, but I don't know for sure. What I do know is that after the flood mankind spread through the earth because in one day God confused the languages. So that is where the different languages came from. And based on the divsion of languages the races of man spread out into the earth.
Microevolution, which is not anitbilical at all, shows that geography, climate, the foods we eat, and how far some live away from the equater etc can change the skin color of man. This is normal and natural.
I wished a study could be made on this and for me it would be very facinating. A long time ago someone in Yahoo answers posted a question on what should be studied. And I said the way the races were formed would be the best one. But my answer did not get a best answer.

The story of Adam and Eve has nothing to do with the truth. When this story was written the ancient ignorant people didn't know that when members of the same family bear children, the offspring are always born with genetic defects like sterility or Mongolism (Down Syndrome). But, some religions sell it as the word of God and uneducated people buy it.

Adam and Eve where likely to be brown or tan skinned. Garden of Eden was in Middle East, likely Iraq. As generations kept reproducing, each string of DNA differed somewhat, making the different breakdowns of pigmentation of the skin. Same thing with eye color and hair color.

The story of Adam and Eve is a myth, a story probably first told orally and passed on through generations, asking the question, "where did we come from?" Genesis is a faith response to that question, written by ancient people, with a certain world view. The Bible isn't meant to be a science or even a history book. We read the story of Genesis and it's meant to speak to our faith in God as the creator of life, however that happens.

Well, since there is no evolution, there is no other race, its just a trick by the devil.
Races of man (skin variations in color and texture as well as hair differences) stem from the differing needs due to the intensity of the sun and the leaf cover in the environment.

based on Jesus' geographical birth, he would be olive color and not white. Just look at the Jewish nation and that the color of Jesus.
Adam and Eve were not white.
The Bible states that one of Noah's sons, Ham settled in the land of Cush(present day Ethopia) which means that Ham was black. How could Noah have three different sons of different races/color? Well they did repopulate the earth and with God all things are possible.

some people lived in the desert and got great tans. others lived in the forest and were shaded by the trees. Skin color from black to white is only different by a little level of melanin count.

well technically, we all came from africa and were black. So adam and eve go right out of the crapshoot anyway.
the reason we are not all black today is because we do not need dark skin to survive in the climates we live in. The human race evolved to suit the climate.

Best explainatin I've heard was Oberon Zell's "We Are the Other People"
Just a warning - it does contain some matter some might find offensive. If they are closed minded..
