Why do only Christians attack Atheists? Why don't Pagans? Or Muslims? Or Shintos? Or Hindus? etc etc?

And don't give me 'but Atheists attack Christians!' cause I don't buy into all that. Do we really know who cast the first stone? But anyway, it seems though that of the 6,560,000,000 people on Earth as of January 2007, 2.100 billion are Christian, with Buddhism coming in next at 1.465 billion. Islam with 1.320 billion, Hinduism at 910 million, other religions at 393 million, and Atheists falling in LAST of the top five at 372 million. (after the top five, the numbers of other religions drop to 25 mil and below, I won't bother to mention them.) But doesn't it seem that if Christian's goals are to preach the gospel to the world, that Buddhist's should be their top priority since they have the next to largest number? Why target the Atheists? Again, don't say cause they targeted you first. Don't you see how easy you are to goad? And I'm not siding with anyone.

cause correct me if I'm wrong, Atheists don't believe in any god, goddess, deity, etc etc. It doesn't say they don't believe in the Christian God, it's not that specific. Right?

There are so many people who think they are absolutely right by believing in what they do. Yet they can't stop: they are going out on the streets and bother people by preaching. What's wrong with them? I don't have time for that. Can't I walk at all because the preachers are there? Should I always use a car to go here and there? That's not enough: they would come and knock on my front door. Those people are absolutely impertinent. Who gave them the right to disturb my privacy? They would say they are doing what God told them? Who told them? God? What God?

As soon as I tell them there is no God, they go away. Easy does it.

I'm a pagan, so why don't I attack atheists? I try not to attack anyone. Live and let live. There are lots of atheists who are pagans in the sense that they are connected to a very real planet under their feet and are committed to protecting it, but don't believe there is a deity or deities out there somewhere.

When I do question a faith (some have called it "attack") it is generally Christianity for the reason that Christianity claims to be the only path to spiritual truth, and "my way or the highway to hell" doesn't fly with me.

Atheists and Buddhists and Hindus don't go around telling me I am going to burn in hell for being a Witch. Christians do. I find it very annoying.

That is a good question. Atheists don't believe in the existance of ANY god. I think we atheists only go after christians more because it is the most popular religion, and the most predominant here in the states. But don't confuse that with us only being against christians.
I personally have given up on this whole situation, because in my opinion religious people are so brainwashed by the time you get to these discussions that it's irreversible.
Also, our nations leaders are devout christians, forcing "god's" will on anyone who isn't. Just let these people believe whatever they think will make death easier.
I dread the day evangelicals take office.

I'm a Christian and I could care less about atheists or their beliefs. I also have no problem with evolution as a theory. God said he made man in his image and what man ever got the job done right the first time? I have no feelings of either hate or love. I feel nothing for them. They believe in nothingness so why should I feel for them anymore than nothingness. Faith is not something you can see, touch, taste or test. Atheist tend to look down their proverbial noses at Christians because they believe we are fools for believing in something we cannot test and quantify. Without faith there is no Hope. I hope and I pray. I also know that atheists will be given the chance to accept God as their savior when they die so I really don't have any negative feelings towards them. Because I know I will be embracing them in Heaven as my brothers and sisters. Love you all.

You say you don't buy into all that "Atheists attack Christians" but if you read these boards then you would know that is true.
I am not saying Christians do not, or they "cast the first stone" but I have rarely seen Atheists respond to Pagans and Muslims the same way.
They constantly say Christians are stupid, delusional and they attack the "Christian God" all the time.
So before you say that they do not, read some of the answers around here.

My humble and athiest opinion on the matter is that we as athiests are the least understood by Christians. They can understand other religions believing in some form of a god, even if it's not their god. They can't understand someone who doesn't have a concept of god at all. Not understanding, they automatically flock to converting athiests more than those who already accept an estabilished religion.

It's not about one religion targeting another... it's about people who are insecure in their faith attacking others. It happens a lot - in all religions (except for maybe the Buddhists).

Kind of like when your short (and I am) and you're more outgoing then most of the others. You're compensating. Sometimes, it's the same with faith. The louder you are about it, the more your shortcomings.

As for converting Buddhists... I think (though I'm not positive) that they are the only religion ever that has never started a war of one kind or another.

Most religions don't have any mandate to proselytize. The reason that people of other faiths don't attack atheists is because they are no threat to us and because we have no need or desire to spread our religion, we have no need to challenge their lack of belief. Many times, because of the Christian doctrine to preach the gospel, atheists, pagans, hindus, buddhists, etc are lumped together and sometimes even argue together against Christianity. As a pagan, I usually find most atheists fun to talk to and in general nice folk.

Our primary struggles are in fact with atheism and Islam right now. So dont give us the "oh it cant be because youre under attack" because we dont buy that at all.

Think of what is happening in America with the secularization with our kids, the forced atheistic philosophy in schools, the constant drumbeat of what is important in life from the media (money, sex, fullfillment, ungodliness) Our future generations are under full attack here in America not to mention the things that are happening with Islam.

Our attacks though are merely rooted in proving them wrong, not stripping away their rights or representation in govt as atheists are trying to do and succeeding with us.

Real maturity comes from standing up for what you believe in rather then letting yourself get oppressed and silenced by an angry minority like what is happening. Shutting up is precisely what they want us to do and it aint gonna happen. They may claim this world as theirs, and they can have it! But we claim truth in Gods name and will not be silent for anybody.

I'm sorry, but I fail to understand how you can read these questions & believe that the more bigoted, X-ian Zealots here only attack Atheists. I've seen Gay-bashing, Pagan-Bashing, Muslim-Bashing as well as Atheist-bashing. Sometimes all in the same foul mouthed misguided attack.

I suspect it's the result of a dualist mindset. One that mindlessly assumes EVERYTHING not "us" (WASP) is evil, will tend to combine/confuse Catholics with Muslims, Hindus with Jewish, Pagan with Satan & any conceivable combination of all the not "".
