Recently, my father bought a HDTv, so I beleive that's a very good excuse to buy a PS3, but to be honest I pretend to use it because of the Blu-ray movies rather than to play videogames (maybe only RE5, MGS4, GTHD), so this is what I ask: is the PS3 as good as a regular Blu-ray player and should I buy it?

I have both wii and ps3 and the ps3 is fare better with graphics and game play. The ps3 does every thing the Wii does but Better i no longer play my Wii. To top it all the PlayStation 3 has a blu-ray DVD player with HDMI output Mp3 player and much more it also connects to the “always-on” on-line experience for free unlike the XBOX 360. So over all i think it is the best for graphics, Game play. the only problem is the cost but u could say that it is cheep for a Blu-ray player and it is one of the best blu-ray players there is with “life-like” sound with its 7.1 channel surround sound .

A PS3 as a Blu-ray player is not as good as a normal Blu-ray player. It's not as durable or as reliable as a regular one. The PS3's Blu-ray player is made from the cheapest material possible, so you get what you pay for. If you're going to be watching a lot of Blu-ray movies, then get a Blu-ray player, but if you want a video game console that can play Blu-ray movies, then get a PS3.
The PS3 as a gaming machine is way better than the 360 as a gaming machine. Just wait until the end of this year when all the big guns for the PS3 will or have been released.

From all the reviews I have looked through, they all say that the ps3 has about the same quality of blu ray technology as Stand alone blu ray players. I don't know what superdork was talking about, he's a bit off base. The playstation 3 has nothing cheap about it, it costs sony about $850 to make one console, they're losing money, sony makes it's money through speculation and software (games), and their hard ware is top of the line quality

Since SONY developed blu-ray technology, I think PS3 is the best blu-ray player out there. I recommend buying PS3.

From what I understand the PS3 is a very good Blu-Ray player...with the prices they are going for it is a good buy.

ps3 is one of the very best blu-ray players on the market. its hdd allows it to support all firmware updates, which are going to be huge when blu-ray java hits. right now it can't upconvert dvds which sucks, but it might be on its way soon. yeah, i definately reccomend ps3.

Of course u should go ahead and buy it,though costly than XBOX 360,the performance is simply ming boggling also its futureproof and as u know SONY is the best thing out there in game consoles.

actually the prices will now decrease until next year february when the ps3 will come again to usa (100,000 units) so i would pre-order one and wait till next year or if you are too despirate, then buy one off ebay...60gb version should be around $1700 and 20gb version should be around $1350. hope you a merry christmas :)

My friend had one and I wasnt to impressed I have a Wii and love it. I would suggest ether waiting till better games come out for the PS3 or get a Wii or 360.

I wasn't that impressed by it when i played it on my cousins HDTV he doesn't like it either. Both my cousin, my friends and I all have 360's and love them. So i would get a 360.
