You should take it to the vet and have it x-rayed. He could have a broken leg, and it won't heal correctly if it's not set. And if he has torn muscles or internal injuries, he could die. I had a cockatiel that had a broken leg. He had to wear a cast, but after the cast was taken off, he walked just fine.

My first advice is take him to a qualified Avian or exotic vet.
Second, make sure he can't get stepped on. You're very lucky he wasn't killed. If you can't be paying attention to him the whole time he's out of his cage, he should be safely in his cage.
If his leg or foot is broken, he will probably have some form of disablement the rest of his life.
This does NOT mean he will have a bad life. I have several rescued birds who have physical disabilities.
A little budgie hen I have got her leg broken, and her owner didn't take her to the vet. She perches funny, can't really walk, and has to fly with her leg sticking out. But she manages pretty well. She flies well, plays nice with her toys, and would really love to be a momma. She is not in pain, according to my vet.
While it is healing, he will be in pain. Ever break your arm, or sprain you wrist? That's how he feels right now.
Keep him warm, give him at least 12 hours of sleep a night, and again, get him to a vet.
