People are quite different from one another....If a certified physician prescribed Paxil for you, you will respond to the dose and frequency calculated by your doctor for your specific problems....If you are rising a census of very many opinions, my feeling is that you do not trust your own doctor....Every person has different reasons for taking specific medications.....and if you are guided by other people experiences, you are in fact, getting a ballot for taking or not, something that has been advised to You, by somebody who has years of experience, and LEGAL responsibility for prescribibg such compound.....Leaflets accompanyng medications are not Gospel, and side effects, can appear in SOME persons..
As Paxil is mainly an antidepressant, (Paroxetine) my guess is that the main reason of your question in the internet, is insecurity and depression itself......
Ask to your doctor directly what you are asking here....It will work for you

I took Paxil for four years and I didn't see that it did much for me only thing that I can say is if I knew all the things that I know now before I started taking it I would have never to ok not even one pill. The side effects are not worth it. When I got pregnant I asked two different doctors if it was ok to take and now I find out all the stuff that can happen to the baby a whole new list of worries due to paxil and the withdrawals are not fun. I have stop taking it I wined myself off of it very slowly. Good luck to you with whatever you decide. Just wish I had talked to someone before I started. Withdrawals are terrible!!

I have been on Paxil before for social anxiety disorder. You may feel a little wierd for a couple of weeks but then it just evens out and you feel normal. After a while you start to feel like you don't need it anymore but don't not just quit taking it you have to ween yourself slowly. I stopped taking it after 2 years and have not needed anything since. but everyone is different. I know I don't like taking meds and if it scares you try counseling instead and try to see if there is an herbal non prescription homeopathic supplement. some doctors will help you find something less dangerous than antidepressants.

The best advice I've seen in these answers is to discuss it thoroughly with your doctor. I have taken Paxil, Zoloft, Welbutrin and finally, Prozac. Welbutrin woke me in the middle of the night like a lightning bolt of panic and anxiety. It was obviously not for me and I quit it immediately after one week's use. I have stopped all of the SRI's I have been taking cold turkey at various times over the last ten years and gone as long as a year not taking any and am now back on 20mg Prozac daily. I usually forget to take it two to three times a week. Doesn't seem to effect me too adversely. I have never been convinced it did me any good, but my wife and therapist say otherwise. Again, talk it over with the doctor and follow your instincts, but listen to those close to you that may notice things about you that you don't (or won't).

I'm taking Zoloft for panic attacks now. I was taking Paxil but the side affects, for me, were worse than just going through the panic attack. The Zoloft is the best thing that has worked for me, and hopefully the last med I will have to take for this. Everyone is different when it comes to the side affects, and they usually only last a few days as your body gets used to the drug. I would just try taking them, and if you have any questions about the way they make you feel, call your doctor.

I've taken Paxil for several periods in my life for social anxiety/depression. Once or twice in high school and once in college (I'm graduating this year). I never had any adverse reactions to it and it really helped me to not have so many stupid hangups about other people. The thing you need to look out for is suicidal thoughts. If you start having them, talk to your doctor, a friend, or your parents! If it doesn't work for you, you need to tell your doctor and try something different.
The only bad side effect I can remember is that sometimes if I forgot to take a pill I would have weird dreams or nightmares that night.

Do not believe the "qualified physician" who stated categorically that this WILL work for you. It is egregiously meretricious bordering on malfeasance and totally unprofesional.
This MAY help as some postings say. It may not.
Of course drugs have side effects, all drugs.
Your damned if you don't but you could be saved if you do.
Consult with your Dr. BEFORE discontinuing therapy and see if they will explore other therapies available as adjuncts to meds., if they won't, IMHO, find another Dr.
Foremost, be honest with them and assert your concerns.
I am not a qualified profesional but I do have 35 years in as a mental health consumer.
My personal experience with SSRI's has been dismal though I did find some relief with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and another type of med.

It's worth a try. I have been on 40 mg for 6 years and it has saved my sanity. It took about 2 weeks before I felt the effect of it. One day, I woke up and it was if someone had turned on the lights!!! If I were ever to try to get off of it,,I have been advised by my doctor to WEAN myself off of it because my neurotransmitters are used to it and would certainly go into withdrawl. When I miss taking it for 3 to 4 days now,,I cry at the stupidest things,,and get edgy. Try it,,it's pretty gentle compared to some of the drugs available to us today. Give it time. GOOD LUCK,,,

Everyone that takes an anti depressant have different experiences, I"ve used 6 different ones trying to find 1 that worked for me. It may take up to two months for the drug to really be working so you never no how an individual drug will effect you. Discuss your concerns with your doctor because we can only tell you how they worked or didn't work for us.
