Has your doctor said anything about asthma. My son would get sick often and then I found out it was asthma. It sounds very similar to my son. The weather, animals, physical activities are some things that can trigger it. Talk to your doctor. No body in my family has asthma, but on his dad's side I found out that his brother had asthma as a child. It went away in his adolescence. Good Luck!!!

From experience with my own son, don't rule out the cat. He was a little older when his coughing started. We got a nebulizer and started breathing treatments. We were advised to use it on an as needed basis. The doctors were leaning toward asthma as the problem. For reasons other than my sons coughing/breathing problems, we found a new home for Max, our cat. Within a month, my son's coughing problem cleared up and hasn't returned. This was 6 years ago or so. This is by no means proof positive that the cat was the cause, but I think it was. My advice is to keep all your option open. If you have a friend that can keep your cat for a month or 2, it could be a worthwhile experiment

My pediatrician used to prescribe anti-allergy medication for my baby but it did not cure his cough. I noticed though that my baby's cough does not have phlegm but was like an itch in his throat that he's trying to get rid of.
The best approach is to observe when the coughing starts and when does it become frequent. Then you can isolate the problem. In my son's case, I noticed that he coughs more at night when the airconditioner runs full time than during daytime when we only switch it on it it's really hot. 2 days after that, his coughing stopped and didn't come back. None of the solutions of my pediatrician worked. In the end, mommy knows best.

Sounds more like an allergy to me. Get him tested with an allergist. Very well could be your cat though. Dust mites, pollen, ....etc. Get him tested soon! My son, too, has allergies and he would get a runny nose and cough on and off and they said he had allergies. He is on meds now, nothing he has to take daily though, just when he starts getting the symptoms. Sounds exactly like what you're experiencing. Did not start immediately from birth either. Talk with your pediatrician and ask if he can recommend an allergist for children. I think it's a safe way to rule things out!

Get aggressive about his environment. Change the air filter in your a/c unit to one of those good 3M ones. Wash EVERYTHING in his room or where he sleeps. Dust like you've never dusted before (especially ceiling fans). Try elevating his mattress a little with towels or such. Don't we all cough less when we're sleeping upright or in a recliner if we have a cough?
If none of this helps after a few days, get a 2nd opinion from a new Dr.

Sounds like he does have allergies it is probably more than just the cat and yes babies can grow into allergies and they may improve or get worse , you may have to find the cat another home , also keep your home dust free , use mild laundry soap . allergy free softeners, after the cat is gone you will need to do a floor to ceiling room to room cleaning using allergy free cleaning products in order to get rid of the dander from the cat and any other things that may irritate him , and also try putting a vapourizer cool air in his room. hope this helps, I live this way myself.

Has he ever been tested for RSV or Asthma or Bronchitis? Children can get RSV up until they are 2 years old and often they have the symptoms of a common cold, that's basically what it is. But in young children the virus attaches itself to the lungs. Get another opinion!

Is he teething? Sometimes when babies teethe, the excess drool causes them to cough and get a little choked. If it isn't from this, ask you doctor to refer you to a specialist or get a second opinion from another doc.

Could be allergies or sinuses.Take him to an Allergy Specialist. If we hadn't gotten my nephew to one, he would have died. His problems were much worse but even his pediatrician though it was nothing. If an Allergist says he's OK- good. Go to one though, just to be safe.
