if you try sometimes, you just might find.. you get what you need.
Religious application: enlightenment comes when we stop being so selfish and begin to search outside ourselves.
too deep? ok. It's a damned good song, and it brings me joy ;)

Look at what you have and find things you can already be grateful for.
Then ask yourself how you expected you would feel if you had what you wanted. Usually we want a certain feeling we think will come from owning a particular thing, or from accomplishing something. Then ask if there's another way to get that feeling. Usually there is, but it takes more work. And usually having the thing only gets us the feeling short term.
Contentment with what we have is difficult, but as a Christian, it's my job to learn to trust that God is faithful with my efforts. I may not be able to see how circumstances in my life will be as I want them to be, but just as the farmer plants and tends in hope of the harvest, I need to do what I can each day and trust God with the results.

get what you need
Religious application? Hmmm... I have the kind of thought that I don't think I could effectively express without really ruining the thought - or saying it really wrong and being misinterpreted.
It's along the lines of us humans having poor judgement when it comes to what we really need. We have pretty simple needs. We tend to complicate our lives by making false needs out of wants. Most of the stuff we take forgranted on a day to day basis are not needs. TV, Computer, Fast Food (thats an anti need if ever there was one). I watch my kids all the time see some flashy commercial for cheap plastic crap and bust out with "I need that!". Always a good teaching moment...

Then get what you need.
Because, we all need food, clothes and a roof over our head and God knows that. He provides that for the little birds, yet we are so much more important to him. God will always, help us face the trials of this world if we have deep faith that He will not abandon us. Also the actions of telling others about our faith, because faith with out action is dead works. So act out, speak up and HAVE FAITH,
If you can't all ways get what you want, then , you'll get what you need!

If you can't get what you want, then want what you get. It reminds me of St. Paul's statement about learning to be content no matter what circumstances he was in at the time.
Phillipians 4:11-13 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
I've learned over the years that I can't always have what *I* want, but what God sends me is going to be the right thing for me. I can't say yet that I'm always content, no matter what my circumstances, but I'm slowly getting better at it.

Uncle Wayne you almost always confuse me :(
Is this the same as "if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all" ?
of which the religious application would be "do unto others as you would have done to yourself"
I think....
I suppose....
I... guess.... ?
you are certainly very clever!
blessings :)

...have a hissy fit till they give it to you. Religious application... hum... Ask and you shall receive... pester the hell out of Jesus and he will give in just to shut you up.. I think that is in the bible somewhere. Not written quiet that way. ;-)
Persistence in prayer. Those above me seem to give up awfully fast. Not me.

If you can't get what you want, then you don't know how to get what you want.
Religious application? You can't get what you want because what you want is miniscule to what God has prepared for you.
