So, i've decided i want to dread my hair. My sister is going to do it for me. But i am still confused on how to make them. What are some things i should know? And what about washing them? When can i wash them and how do i maintain them?

by the way i have thick, but almost stright hair.

if you do decide to dread your hair, i will tell you that if you decide to take them out just be aware the only way to get rid of dreads is really to cut them off. or just know your hair wont be in that great of condition if you have them removed. they are very hard to keep clean as well. from a hairstylists point of view its a nightmare when someone wants to take them out!

you need:
-dread wax
-a comb...you may want a medal one
- lots of ruberbands(small)

- stop using condititioner in your hair one week before you make them
- the day you make them rinse your hair with 1 tablespoon and one quart of water
-beginning with dry hair, start taking pieces of your hair and twisting them tightly
- put in some wax and them twist it tighter
- put a rubberband around the lock and do this to all other pieces of hair
- each day you may want to twist the locks daily to tighten them as well as adding wax every day

- You cant wash your hair for the first two weeks, never condition it, and use a non-residue shampoo.

Just be prepared to shave your head when your done with having dreadlocks. I know to maintain them keeping them look polished you have to rub beeswax on them. My cousin had dreads for a while, and that's what she used to keep them looking nice and smooth.
