I am traveling to England (London and Bath) next week for the first time. I want to experience an afternoon British tea. Does anyone have any recommendations for a place that is not too expensive and not packed with tourist? I am also looking for a place that does not have a dress code since I won't have fancy clothes with me. Thanks : )

P.S. Also, how is the coffee in Britain compared to America?

My daddy lives in London and i go visit him once every month... there are really cute places by Buckingham Palace. Its cool because you will be having tea a few blocks down the road from the Queen who will also be having tea! Every place during tea time probably wont be packed with tourists because most of them dont even know when tea time is. haha. Oh and also, all the times I have been to tea, my family has just worn whatever we wore just walking around everywhere. Nothing formal is required unless you go to a really fancy restaurant in town. I really like the place the Red Moon. Yummy stuff <3
The coffee in Britain tastes worse than in America... kinda more bitter and has less taste. I would bring some of your own beans if you need to drink coffee... or just try it in London but its kinda blah. lol.
P.S. if you see a yellow punch buggy with loads of stuffed animals in the back and stickers on the back windows, thats my car!!! lol!!

I like both places, and they're quite different from each other. London the big metropolis, and Bath, the quaint Georgian town with a Roman history.

In Bath there is a famous bakery where they sell Sally Lunn buns. Maybe you can get tea there too, I'm not sure. However, it's worth it to try a fresh bun. Yum!

London would have more variety though. Sorry I can't think of a specific place.

Enjoy your tea. As far as I know the coffee there is pretty much like a regular cup of Canadian coffee (said to be strong by some Americans).

Bath is nicer, it's a bit of a tourist town what with the roman baths and all the georgian architecture, but nice all the same. There are lots of tea shops and things like that there, but avoid places like Starbucks because it will be just like in your home town. Try a small, independent little cafe.

Be sure to visit Bristol when you're in Bath, it's got loads of history too :)

And don't forget the Roman baths in Bath - there's always loads of Americans swooning over the architecture and the history lol.

Any place in London is perfect for tea. Coffee is better in London than in America, and be sure to have a cuppa English tea, there's nothing like it!
