I have it. I like it. Some people have complained about exposure inconsistency, and I do shoot almost all on minus 1/3, but I like the result just fine. Mine came with the 18-135 kit lens. It is slow, but fairly sharp. It does suffer from some distortion, especially on the wide end, but I see very little CA or fringing. When shooting important indoor things (weddings) I use a different lens. But for shooting the grandkids and travel shots, I find this lens to be very serviceable. I just took it to Arizona for a week, and it lived on the camera the entire trip. I shot 5 gigs on RAW or fine jpeg. (I also shot film with an F100.) I am pleased with the images, mostly the exposure was spot on. I did accidentally mis-adjust the WB for several frames without realizing it, but that was pure operator error! And easily adjusted in RAW.

I am also happy with the high ISO performance. 800 is great, and even 1600 is acceptable. I do have the noise control boosted on high ISO.

So if you're considering the D80, go for it!

I own a D70s and D200, so I can't comment on the D80 from experience, but between the size and feel of the D70s and the sensor and processing of the D200, I have formed an opinion. One of these articles is subtitled, "Psst - Want a D200 at half the price?" If the D80 came out before I bought my D200, I may have bought that and been happy enough to stick with it. There are only a few tricks the D200 can do that the D80 can't and the D80 can even do a couple that the D200 can't. Here are a few links, in case you have not seen this material yet. They will give you more pros and cons than I could dream of.
