at the time the geneology was only for men. Joseph was reportedly not the biological father of Jesus, so why list the geneology. Technically Jesus did not decend from that bloodline and and thus did not fufil that part of the prophesy in given by Isiah.

In order to be the Messiah, Jesus had to come from the line of David.
Luke traces followed the ancestry of Mary, thus showing Jesus NATURAL decent from David, while Matthew follows Jesus LEGAL decent, because Joseph was Jesus Legal father.
So he was Son of David by human birth through his mother MARY,and Legally through Joseph because as you suggested Women were not able to have Legal rights, so Joseph Marys Husband provided that, while she provided the natural birth line.

I look at this two ways. First, although Jesus supposedly did not have a human father in Joseph, he still had his mother's bloodline to trace. Being a family, and for tradition's sake, it would still make sense to trace the bloodline back from Joseph to at least give the illusion that Joseph was indeed the father.

Secondly, from a more modern scientific standpoint, from whom did Christ's genetics come? Unless God does indeed have human-compatible DNA for reproductive purposes, Jesus should have, by the understanding of our science, been a clone of Mary. Could it be that God took Joseph's DNA to impregnate Mary to at least give the illusion that Christ was Joseph's son? If so, then it makes sense to trace Jesus' lineage according to the customs of the time. If God did not use Joseph's DNA, and does not have his own DNA to donate, then regardless of how Jesus came into existence, the customs of the time dictate the tracing of lineage along the assumed father's line. Telling people that baby Jesus was not Joseph's child would have sparked scorn and ire among the people of the time, and could have gotten the three of them stoned to death. Thus, again, it makes sense to assume publicly that Joseph is the father.

What the Christians are trying to hide is the fact that Jesus really come from the blood line of Joseph. Jesus does not necessarily have to born by virgin birth but rather more by a young maiden. The Aramaic or even Hebrew word do not exactly say that it will be virgin birth but the word connotes more of a young. Jesus was born out of wedlock....go to this website and find who really Jesus is...www.thename.ph
