Yes I would say out of many religions I do have a lot respect for the Amish.
Old ways yes...but completly self sufficient...they dont want anything to do with Government and I respect that a hell of alot more that other beliefs trying to push themselves into government. They have actually went out thier way to have thier own communities and schools, yet seem to have respect for others. You may see some Amish carting down the street in horse and buggy but they arent pulling up to your driveway to come knocking on your door.
Also very forgiving as you mentioned and not greedy.
Very trustworthy which may seem naive, but its something you cant help but admire...they truely try to see the good in all people.

They don't go out trying to make others become like them.

And I've heard that at a certain age, often their adult kids are actually given the option of leaving the Amish lifestyle if they so choose.

Could be true because they follow a path that rejects our materialistic reality, and in doing so they get back to basic Christianity before political correctness or current judgementalism against pure faith. They adhere to basic life and should be applauded for their efforts.

No. Jesus did not teach his followers to isolate themselves. Instead, he taught them to "Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. And, look! I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.”—Matt. 28:19, 20.

Christians can't accomplish their assignment if they hole themselves up in little communities.

Well, they also neglect the safety of their people for wanting to preserve old traditions. I think it is always a good idea to evolve.
