I keep having dreams where I find myself underwater. I hold my breath until I physically hurt, then take a breath and can breathe underwater. Does this mean anything in particular? Can I possible be holding my breath outside of my dream, therefore causing pain?

I don't snore, but I do talk in my sleep occasionally.

I guess you can't really tell unless someone is watching you can you? If you can, see if you can have someone watch you when you take a nap or something. I know it sounds weird, but I think that would be the only way to really know if you are holding your breath in your sleep. I don't think it will hurt you if you are holding your breath...as long as you don't hold your breath to death.

This might be showing that you feel invincible in dreams but at the same time understand you can hurt on the inside. Maybe a troubled love life (physically hurt) and then finding out you can live on (breathe underwater). These are just my thoughts and interpretations. Also, you might be holding your breath outside your dream because sometimes I chew something in my dream (burger or sumthin) and then I wake up to find I was chewing on my pillow, which is a little weird but the same idea.

Underwater
To dream that you are underwater, suggests that you are feeling overcome with emotions and are in need of greater control in your life. You may be in over your head regarding some situation.
To dream that you are breathing underwater, represents a retreat back into the womb. You want to return to a state where you were dependent and free from responsibilities. Perhaps you are feeling helpless, unable to fulfill your own needs and caring for yourself. Alternatively, you may be submerged in your emotions.
Pain
To dream that you are in pain, signifies that you are being too hard on yourself with regards to a situation that was out of your control. It may also be a true reflection of real pain that exists somewhere in your body. Dreams can reveal and warn about health problems.

It means that even though you might seem overwhelmed and 'drowning' in a situation you have the strength to overcome. I've had the same dream and in some cases people were shooting at me in the dream. The only way I could escape was breathing under water. Weird dream, I must admit.

Go see your doctor and ask about sleep apnea. Sounds like you have a bad case of it, could be anxiety but sounds more like apnea. Let us know what the doctor finds.

Probably you are going do some thing thinking it's hard or impossible but then it's allot easier than what you think.
