Granted, since Jesus is supposedly the messiah mentioned in the OT there is a connection, but so much contained in *his* philosophy (as opposed to that of Paul) is so contradictory to the "mean old god" stories in the OT that they seem like they have almost nothing in common fundamentally.

While we're at it, what does Revelations have to do with the teachings of Jesus?

Why does Paul the Corruptor get half (?) of the NT to himself? He didn't even know Jesus.

If you cut out the OT, Revelations and the politics/canon/codification of Paul (as well as anything else contrary to the philosophy of Jesus) this atheist would be much more christian-friendly. I would have no problem with that religion at all. I might even put a fish on my car.

Great question!

Incredibly, this question is rarely considered by christians.

The stock standard answers to this riddle focus on the assumptions (a) because Jesus was supposed to be Jewish and (b) because he was supposed to fulfil Old Testament prophecy that (c) the Jewish scripture is included.

But is this really the true story of how the Bible was constructed?

Jesus founder of the Nazarenes
========================
Jesus founded the Nazarenes
See:
http://one-faith-of-god.org/new_testament/apocrypha/nazarenes/nazarenes_0010.htm

+ The Nazarenes were an off-shoot of the Essenes with both groups believing the Jewish Scriptures were largely a fictional work of real people.

+ For example, the Essene High Priests always maintained they were descended from Pharaoh Akhenaten and Moses was a fictional character based on this real historic figure;

+ The enemy of the Nazarenes/Gnostics were the Sadducee High Priests and their scripture. So there is no way on Earth Jesus would have wanted the Old Testament bolted on.

+ In fact the oldest gospels and the ones closest to the true teachings of Jesus (such as Gospel of Thomas) are excluded from the Christian Bible.

Paul of Tarsus founder of Christianity
=============================
+ Paul of Tarsus and the Jewish Sadducee High Priests founded christianity to deliberately destroy the gnostic message of Jesus.
http://one-faith-of-god.org/new_testament/apocrypha/founders_christianity/founders_christianity_0010.htm

+ To add critical mass to their re-work of the historic Jesus, Paul arranged for the Old Testament to be presented with his fictional gospels as one book.

+ The Sadducee High Priests hired every scribe they could find and created the world's first publishing house to mass produce the first Bibles from at least 55 CE onwards!

+ The story that the Bible wasn't decided until 320 CE (Nicea) has always been a false claim designed to distract from any potentially embarassing question of how could a Bible emerge fully formed unless some other agenda was underway?

Old Testament writings are those that are said to have been written before the birth of Jesus and the NT are those which are said to have been written after the birth of Jesus. As i understand it, the Bible is a collection of writings considered sacred by the Christian bishops who compiled them. Some claim that the compilation occurred at the first council of Nicea though others dispute this. In any case, being a compilation of a number of writings written by many authors over a fair span of time, it is to be expected that some differences in outlook would be expressed.

And it is rare for a religion to not claim to have some sort of connection with the religions that preceded it. By claiming that Jesus is the messiah mentioned in the OT, Christians make an appeal to and borrow from the authority that is vested in the religious writings of the older religion (i.e., Judaism).

OT: before Jesus. It was a type and shadow of Jesus and God's plan. The perfect sacrifice had not occurred. God executed His righteous judgment. It was necessary to understand God. There are many other reasons too.

NT: Jesus. Everything changed as far as how we have access to God. Paul's brilliance in understanding and interpreting scripture for us was and is necessary. It's no wonder God personally chose Paul.

It all goes together perfectly. By the way, God is the same today, yesterday and tomorrow.

The two are complete works one involves the Law ,then the law was justified by Jesus

Paul met Jesus on the Damascus road face to face. "Paul an apostle of God" the apostles recognized Paul and his work with the churches. Please don't do God any favors--he is a savior to the world.

Because the OT leads up to Christ's coming and His death and resurrection, the message of salvation is shown throughout the entire bible from the beginning, leading up to Christ, and then after Christ rises from the dead, salvation is still preached-- because that is the most important thing about the word of God, it is about the salvation of Jesus Christ! And there is nothing more important than your salvation in Him.
And the entire Bible is God's word-- God breathed as it says in 1 Timothy.
