In Adam and Eve, as far as I know, the forbidden fruit is just that...a forbidden fruit. But if you were to name a specific fruit, you would automatically say an apple, right? Why is this?

It is a unique fruit that we know nothing of. It is forbidden and kept away from us.

I have always wondered about that.

That's right. The Bible doesn't call it an apple. A while back I read that it is believed (well, whoever wrote it believes it at least...) the religious paintings that were taken back to Europe in the early 1000's (or whenever) depicted a fruit similar to an apple. Since European painters had never seen this fruit they assumed it was an apple and made their paintings accordingly. Some say it was a pomegranate because that is native to the Bible lands. Well, Adam & Eve were in the Garden of Eden and any fruit could have been growing there. Only God knows what type of fruit it was.

The point of the story is not lost by not knowing what type of fruit it was and no harm is done saying it was an apple - or anything else for that matter. Some questions just can't be answered with our limited knowledge.

Yes, apple would be the fruit that comes to mind, but, the tree is actually fig. So, therefore,..... We could do some more research on it if you want , but, i'm pretty sure it is fig.
From my interpretation, the act of 'NOT' eating the fruit is more symbolic than anything else. One could say that God wanted to teach Adam and Eve how to appreciate and love what they have and not want more ..or, He wanted to see how long before one of them disobeys Him. Whatever it is, it all comes down to 'boundaries' and the consequence it has once you've crossed a certain line. Nevertheless, it is a good 'moral' story which is to know what you're getting yourself into 'first' before anything else....and that's my take on this.

definite. a million. To the poster above me, "appropriate" isn't the be conscious. If Adam and Eve did no longer devour the forbidden fruit, they could have remained harmless. purely God is appropriate. 2. anybody remains eating the forbidden fruit at present. They do it day in and day out. maximum folk devour the forbidden fruit no longer understanding that are eating the forbidden fruit. 3. what's the forbidden fruit? to apply the certainty of stable and evil without trusting God over such subject concerns. there is too lots fruit on the Tree of the certainty of stable and Evil. no possible devour each little bit of fruit. no possible digest all of it. possible say that everybody the selfishness, all the divorces, all the strife, all crimes and conflict stem from guy's lack of ability to comprehend the intensity of the certainty of stable and evil. 4. this is the place the rubber meets the line. in case you have faith God over concerns of stable and evil, you're a Christian. in case you do take concerns of stable and evil into your owns arms, leaving subject concerns as much as guy, you're no longer a Christian.

Nah bananas were God's "gift" to humanity according to Kirk Cameron so there is no way he would forbid someone from eating a banana. The apple is easiest to visualize then say, a pineapple, or a plum, or some fruit that half the world has never heard of.

actually it's "the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil"

and I have no idea why peeps say it's an apple. I personally think it is a totally unique fruit that was ONLY on that particular tree - obviously beautiful and delicious.

blessings :)

Because of the "Adam's apple", which some say is a piece of the apple that stuck in poor Adam's throat. I have also heard that it was a pomegranate, or a fig (something about them sowing fig leaves together, I think, after they sinned),

Because this is the way man wrote the story. Man needed to use a fruit which every one in the world is familiar with, hence the apple being chosen to represent this sinful act!!!

I don't know. It's actually kinda funny. Why don't they say it was a banana or a pear? No one knows what the fruit was that was forbidden because it's name isn't mentioned in Scripture.
