The Bible does not say that Adam and Eve had any daughters; But, nor does the Bible say that God didn't create other men and women....
So, it is possible that God did create other people, and Seth and Cain married other women.

Well, some fundamentalists believe that they had to marry each other, and therefore had sex and produced offspring, thus starting the human race. There are others tho that believe that Adam and Eve were NOT the first and only humans on earth, and that Cain at least found another tribe and a wife in another country, after he was driven away by God in exile. Me, I don't really know. I was not around in those days, and I sometimes think the real meaning of the Bible is allegorical, not literal. So I guess I am not a fundamentalist.

Well... there were not really a lot of options...
But thankfully it was the males and the females involved for the most part. Otherwise Yahoo Answers would be very quiet indeed.

The answer above mine is slightly off base in that the initial population were the descendants of Adam and Eve. The angels did indeed take wives and have children but that was not source of the bulk of the population. However, that was where the giants often referenced in the Bible came from. These unions between angels and human women had quite a long list of descendants as well before the flood.

In a word, "Yes"

The whole point of the story of Adam and Eve is that we are all directly descended from the first two original humans which were made directly by Gods own hand.

"...in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them and God said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it:"

The brothers and sisters who were Adam and Eves children married each other and were quite fruitful indeed. There was no danger of ill effects of inbreeding during the first few human generations because Adam and Eve were created with perfect genes.

I do not believe that the 'sons of God' of Genesis 6:2 are to be understood as meaning other gods or angels, but rather they were descendants of Adam and Eve also in the sense that Adam was a son of God and all his sons would be also considered sons of God as long as they remained true to God. In verse 5 of chapter 6 it is clear that many of Adam and Eves descendants had become wicked. It seems to the Daughters of these 'wicked' descendants of Adam and Eve that are referred to as the Daughters of Man in verse 2.

Well i guess if you believe in Adam and Eve, then that is what had to happen.

Also, Imbreds were socially acceptable a long time ago. Royalty used to Marry their sisters and cousins and whatnot to keep the "Royal Blood" in the family. This ended when deformities started occurring and they realized that inbreeding would give a better chance of getting any health problems that run in the family's blood.

I looked at the other answers before I did this. After Cain slew Abel the Bible said he left for the land of Moo, where is found a wife. Now I am wonder about this land of Moo. does it mean there were other people here when God created Adam and Eve?? Or was this some time later that he left ??

well I would guess so if you look at it logically (though logic in a myth..how does that work?) Adam and Eve were brother and sister, right? So their kids were already born of incest. So their kids had kids with each other....maybe some of their kids even had kids with Adam and Eve...it's a messed up family.

There is a timetable in the application of laws. For example, in our system, the applicability of laws are base upon signing by a competent authority. So, if a certain state will no longer agree on divorce. The applicability will not covered previous incidence. Similarly, if GOD, does not allow incest after HIS other creation, so let it be.

Apparently, the genes were very strong in the first several generations.

But... what about Noah and his family, after the Flood? They had to start over, but with how many family members? I think by then, God decided to lower life expectancy to keep the genes strong.

who, cain & abel?
hmmmm, that would dispute what a lot of born agains say then huh?
they must have done it with eve.

they do talk about cain's wife in the bible, but they always refer to her as "cain's wife". and they don't give the names of all of adam & eve's children either. he must have married his sister or his mother.

btw...... where in the bible does it say incest is a sin??
