Well, I'm in Illinois. The last time I looked to buy a Guinea Pig they cost $32.99. Meier's usually has a better selection, in my opinion. But I think they are more likely to be healthier at Pet-co.

You should really consider adoption rather than buying, especially since you live in an area where there is bound to be plenty of homeless guiena pigs.
Guinea pigs from shelters tend to be healthier and more social than guinea pigs from a pet store. Chains like Petco often focus on the amount of animals they sell, rather than the quality. Before I knew about guinea pig adoption, I bought two of my guinea pigs from Petco (I now have four pigs in total). One of them was VERY skittish because he had never been properly held before and the other had a bad case of ear mites. I had to take my pig to the vet to get him checked out, which set me back a full $50. When I went to Petco to ask them to pay me back for the vet bill because the animal was sick when I bought it, they made a huge stink about how I should have come to them first and seen THEIR vet so they can give him an anti-mite shot (the wrong type of medicine to use for guinea pigs). I had a huge battle with them that went on for a couple of months and they finally agreed to pay me back. As I was leaving the store after collecting my money, I checked out the guinea pig that were for sale and saw that another guinea pig in the cage had mites (there was a large white patch over his entire ear). I immediatly informed the manager, who did not even respond. He never asked which guinea pig was ill. He never told me he'd take care of it. He simply bid me farewell.
I got my other two pigs at shelters. One came from a guinea pig rescue that is about an hour away from me and another came from the MSPCA, which is half an hour away from my house. While I had to drive further to get these pigs, the extra effort was DEFINITLY worth it.
Trust me, you are so much better off adopting. For more information on guinea pigs, check out www.cavycages.com and www.guinealynx.com.
For local guinea pigs in need of a forever home, check out www.petfinder.com or you can look at the "pets" listings on www.craigslist.com.
Good luck!

I know that in Wisconsin the cost about $25. Probably a lot more though considering it's in San Fransisco.

I'm not sure how much they cost in San Francisco, but I'm going to say that they're under 50 dollars.

It's probably cheaper, and more rewarding, to adopt. Look for guinea pigs in local shelters and on petfinder.com.
