Xanax is prescribed for various reasons. It can be used for anxiety, panic attacks,Muscle relaxation.
It is in the same clas of drugs as Valium Benzodiaxapines.
They are all addictive and require increased doses after long periods of treatment.
If used correctly and as prescribed by your Dr it can provide benefits but if abused it's like any other medication it could ruin your life.

Xanax is so addictive because of its "rebound effect". In other words, if you were anxious before taking Xanax you will be as anxious or more anxious when it wears off and need to take another dose. Also it has a short "half life". It doesn't last as long as some of the other benzodiazepines. It will not kill you unless you take the whole Rx at once or combine with too much alcohol.

Xanax will not kill you but it is extremely addicting. It is for anxiety and if you are anxious, take as prescribed. Be extremely careful about taking too much.

All of the tranquillisers and sleeping pills that are prescription only are extremely addictive. They cause the most severe withdrawal syndromes of all drugs. You can die from stopping the drug abruptly due to seizures, or suicide because the withdrawals are so extreme.
Other non life threatening withdrawals can include anxiety, panic depression, muscle spasms, insomnia etc.
Long term use is associated with depression with suicide attempts, agorophobia, cognitive impairments.
The FDA only recommend 2 - 4 week prescribing but many doctors ignor the guidelines.
The drug generally stops working after regular use due to tolerance. The body just gets tolerant to the drug. Tolerance develops rapidly with most benefitial effects gone after a few weeks or months of use. Then many people find that they cannot stop.

You will feel good about yourself with Xanax.

Don't increase your dose to kill yourself.

Never miss a dose and when you eventually stop it, do not abruptly stop it, slowly withdraw it in about 2-4 weeks time.

For side effects, go to google.com and type in Xanax, side effects.
