okay. the best way to propose is usually take the girl or guy where yo had your first date. or if that place is to cheesy, take him\her to a cumfy nice dinner or picnic. picnics are super romantic. ask him\her at the right moment/ and trust me, youll know when the right moment is.

Whatever you decide, it should come from your heart and you need to figure out ~ would she want some kind of public proposal or would she prefer something quiet and intimate with just the two of you? Most women I have talked with like the personal touch with just the two of them.

If you can write poetry, write one just for her and ask her that way as you sit there with the ring in your hand, ready to place on her finger as you get down on one knee and look lovingly into her eyes then ask the question that makes a girl swoon :)

I took my wife to a peaceful park asked her to sit down at a picnic table then got on my knees and showed her the ring
while I proposed to her. That was more more Dover 20 years ago.Since then 2 kids have joined the picture making it hard at times but that all depends on how strong your love is and ours couldn't be any more since those two birth dates.

There are many typical ways to do it:
-where you first met
-in front of family and friends at a surprise party for something else
-fancy restaurant with the desert

However, each person is different. Some people LOVE the attention of a big party to do it. Others would prefer a stroke of midnight romantic New Years eve.

Deep down, what matters is that it is well thought out and the ring that she wants is there AND you do it with a tear in your eye...

I would recommend that you have something written (a poem, quote, etc) that you memorize that makes her weak in her knees. Then, you MUST get on one knee. Women love this (I know, and everyone will ask her if he got down on one knee). Ask her not that she'll marry you, but that she'll make you the happiest man on earth by honoring you with promising to be yours forever... Etc.

Another option is to put her on a goose chase to find you. Have a note for her to go to X. Then, there, have someone give her a GPS finder where she'll have to go to another place with the GPS where a friend of hers is there who gives her a card from you, which asks her to go to Y. At Y is one of your friends where she is sent to find a family member.... Then she is sent to you, where you have a champagne picnic waiting for her. And a ring.

There are a lot of ways to propose to the girl you love. A quick Yahoo search would give you some ideas. I personally love how my dad did it to my mom: in a hot air balloon ride. Very original and sweet!

I'll give you my example...

Hubby bought me an emerald ring which are my favorite...He took me to the history museum one day just for one...didn't think anything of it...he took me into the gems and stones vault where there are these massive size jewels of all types..dimonds, rubies and so on...he proposed to me next to the emeralds surrounded by all the dimaonds and natural jewels.
