There is a stray wood pigeon sitting on my patio. It's unresponsive to my moments and appears to be gasping for air. It has been doing this for an hour now. There are no visible injuries.

If he wasnt very sick or close to dying he wouldnt be sitting there. Dont handle hime without gloves and if you do have to remove him make sure you change your clothes and get them washed fast also make sure that you have take a shower. Wild pigeons are know carriers of come bad dieases that people can catch. i know this for a fact since i am a professional bird breeder and i have been hosptilaized over a diease that one of my Pigeons had.

I'd suggest that you call your local animal shelter or animal control and see if they can do anything to help it. It may or may not be a disease, however. It could be an injury also.
