Back when I was in school the special students such as slow learners or retarded students did not ride the regular school bus. They rode the shorter bus and when you just didn't get it or fell short on the learning or social curb comments were made such as you must have rode the "short bus" or you went to school on the short bus etc.

Well, I drive the short bus.
The Downs Syndrome kid who always seems to have a special way of making me happy.
The little girl who can't feel pain, who'se met, Oprah, Montel and Maury. She says she likes Oprah best.
The 6 year old who convinced me that "yes, ADHD kids need their meds, when he told everyone that he had a gun in his backpack. I checked. It was pudding.
ALL the aspies!
Probably, it's the greatest job in the world...

WOW, I am really shocked and appalled at all the disgusting answers you received. It's so sad to see how mean hearted people can be.

Have you not seen the "short" school buses? They are used to transport children with handicaps and have become synonymous with the mentally disabled.

it is the bus that the children with down syndrome ride to school. Handicap children as well. Wow, people sure are mean ain't they.

I have a short bus at my school, so i know what its for. Its for the "mentally challenged",or for the physically disabled. I don't think anyone is mentally challenged.
