Stretch marks result from two things:
1] rapid weight increase [ as in pregnancy ]
2] steroid use
If these are old, 'silvery' marks, they have been there quite a while. If they are new, red or purplish marks, they are less than a year old.
If you haven't done any of the above, you should see a doctor.
They don't go away; just become silver-white. Some of us seem to be more susceptible than others - remember that when you have kids - watch your weight gain!
[ I got stretch marks from growing hips in sixth grade - and I only weighed 63 pounds! ]

Two of the main reasons stretch marks may appear is from skin tightness and rapid growth or tragedy. Nowadays there are some incredible products that can actually make your skin more stretchable, and prevent or eliminate stretch marks altogether. This is especially helpful for women, since they tend to be more self conscious about their body, even to the point of becoming depressed at personal flaws.

You may be encouraged to visit a dermatologist to help decrease or eliminate your stretch marks. Unfortunately that can cost a lot of money and the elimination process can last a long time. Perhaps the easiest, cheapest way is to go to any grocery store or pharmacy and buy a bottle of cocoa butter. While it may not completely keep you from developing stretch marks, it will definitely lessen the amount and visibility.
