Just curious, where are you from? As an American, I also love PB&J's as we call them. Peanut butter is very American as it was invented here. We eat it with many things. Peanut butter is very delicious with fruit things. One of my favorite snacks is apple slices dipped in peanut butter. It is a great way to get a protien boost in the day. My brother in law likes peanut butter and cheese sandwiches!

Hi, when I was a nurse there was an American nurse training at the hospital. She told me about jelly & peanut butter sandwiches and said she would make me some the next day.
And yes Jelly is Jam. It tasted awful but next day I got my own back and bought in some black-puddings and Tripe.... poor girl she did not have a clue as to what they were but after she had tasted them I told her what she had been eating and she made a very quick exit in the direction of the toilet

Yes we eat jelly/jam and peanut butter. For a fast paced society that's always in a hurry, Americans will make this quick sandwich for themselves and their kids. Then the kids figure out it's real easy and quick to make, so they make it themselves. It becomes a cyclical pattern... Plus it's cheap to make and easy to store... Jelly and peanut butter take a long time to spoil when they're in a fridge, so it's not perishable.

Of course, we Americans have a habit of disregarding nutrition for speed... Too much carbs, sugar and fat from the sandwich. Not a whole lot of good stuff either...

PB&J's are a staple over there...

Jelly is fruit jam which has been strained before putting up in the jars so as to have a clear jelly without the cloudyness and fruit bits found in jam. That's why the only true authentic PB&J is made with grape jelly not strawberry jam.

I'll go you one better; there is also the "Fluffer-nutter"! A peanutbutter sandwich made with "Fluff"; a spreadable marshmallow cream.

My daughter always said she knew she would have a wonderful day at school when she saw me putting a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in her lunch. She is 29 and still loves them. It is a good source of protein and the jelly entices the little ones to eat it. I'm 55 and I still like an occassional one myself. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it. LOL

Not jelly and peanut butter, it's PB and J. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
Here in the States it is always Peanut Butter Jelly Time. Please see the following video for an introduction to us crazy Americans and the effect Peanut Butter and Jelly has on us.

Why are you assuming it's weird if you've never tried it? You remind me of these people I met 11 years ago who though meeting someone on the internet was a weird way to meet someone, ha!

MMM yummy. Some homemade preserves, jam or jelly that you get at farmers market with some homemade peanut butter you can make in your food processor on whole wheat bread. Mmmm yummy.

I'm assuming you are European. You people think that eating peanut butter on celery sticks is weird too. That's one of my favorite snacks, and it's highly nutritious.

You think eating pb & j sandwiches is weird? Go to the Amazon forest and see what the indigenous people eat there. You'll faint.

They're believed to have been 'invented' by the Gi's of WWII. They were given rations of peanut butter & also jelly. They apparently put them together in a sandwich! Sales of the two skyrocketed right after the war & haven't really declined. We Americans are apparently really the only ones who consider peanut butter a staple in the pantry. & they're yummy & good for you!!
