A superset is the combination of one exercise performed immediately after another with no rest between the exercises. Completing the two exercise cycle completes the superset.

Super sets are a fast way to build muscle because they allow you to increase the intensity of your weight lifting routine. The increase in workout intensity occurse because you are able to sqeeze more work into a shorter time frame.

There are three main ways to do superset exercises:

Antagonistic Supersets - Antagonistic supersets are a way to build muscle fast since it involves pairing two opposite (antagonistic) muscle groups. This allows for a period of rest for the muscle group not being worked. This allows you to handle heavier weights for each muscle group worked. Example: Working the chest (pectorals) with the back (latissimus dorsi).

Same Muscle Group Supersets - As the name suggests, these supersets involve working the same muscle with two different exercises, for example bench press with dumbell flyes. There are four flavors of same muscle group super sets: Pre-Exaust, Post-Exaust, Compound and Isolation. For more information on these, see the source below.

Staggerd Supersets - The staggard superset involves the combination of a large muscle group such as the chest or legs with an unrelated, smaller muscle group such as the abdominals. This allows you to be more productive between sets and save time in the gym.

A superset tends to be when you perform an exercise, then immediately follow with another exercise without a rest. There are different types but the most common is Same Part Supersetting-for example, when youre working your pecs you could do a set of Bench presses then immediately go into a set of press ups. Another type is Antagonistic Supersetting where you work a muscle, then immediately follow with a set on the opposite muscle-for example you could do a set of bicep curls followed by tricep dips.

ok, if you are doing a superset of chinups+pullups then ONE superset would be: do 10 chinups and then without any break do 10 pushups. let me quote you to answer you: "i get that it is performing 2 exercises without a break but ..." you are half right about that, it is performing two OR more exercises one after another without a break. the usual way of training is you do one set of an exercise and rest, then do another set of the same or another exercise and rest, and so on. on lets name bench press: A squats:B and deadlifts:C so if you have an usual way of training you would train this way: A rest B rest C <> on a superset of bench press, squats and deadlift it would look like this: A B C rest (superset one done) <> if the routine asks you to do 3 supersets of chinups+pushups then it should look like this (let's say you would use 6 reps on both exercises): 6 pushups without a brake do 6 chinups (superset one) <> 6 pushups without a brake do 6 chinups (superset two) <> 6 pushups without a brake do 6 chinups (superset three) then that would be 3 supersets of chinups+pushups any other question? just add more details and i will gladly answer you.

instead of resting between sets, you work the opposite muscle (e.g. biceps/triceps)
