I've always wondered that myself.
I love it when you answer one of those questions "What's your religion", and you get thumbs down.

It's their right because Yahoo allows them to do it. It still seems pretty mean to me.
I will be honest and say that I give thumbs-down on certain answers if I can see that the answerer is claiming to be an authority on my religion but clearly has no idea what I believe. I try not to do thumbs-down though if it's just an opinion.

I'd like to know too. I usually do a thumbs down if it's a stupid answer or they are being bigoted A holes. You know, like when some ones say I believe in god and atheists are just deluded!
I got a thumbs down because I stated there was no law preventing you from bringing a bible or practing any religion you want in school! Silly, It's a fact.

That is aggravating. . .it's an OPINION, for crying out loud! How can an opinion be a "bad answer" just because it doesn't agree with someone else's views?
And I'm with Dethklok. When I research a topic or already know an answer, nothing is more infuriating than some idiot giving me a thumbs-down. I don't post information if I haven't: checked it out, verified it from several references, and am willing to cite my sources.

I give thumb ratings to answers, and I may well be an 'imbecile', as you so elegantly put it.
I think it's just a gauge of average sympathy ( or otherwise ) with that opinion, don't let it bother you, we imbeciles are quite nice people really. :-)))
Watch this answer for example, I predict 25 thumbs down and 1.5 thumbs up.

the same right that gives every man freedom to voice their opinion i guess......dont let the thumbs down get you down.that may not have been their intention.they may have been deprived as a child or their IQ may well be that of an imbeciles....who knows.dont let the system get you down:)
i think its wise to prepare yourself for people like that mentally so when it happens it doesnt hurt your pride.

I just got a thumbs down when I said I wear sunscreen to avoid sunburn. lol. Who knows what someone thinks when they click thumbs up or down?

Unfortunately, it is human nature to judge those around us based on our own perceptions of what is right or wrong. We believe that what we know to be true MUST be true for everyone; and anyone who doesn't believe that to be the truth MUST be self-deceiving. We then take it upon ourselves to "educate" them. And that is the way of it. I, myself, have been guilty of it on more than one occasion, and still get slightly ruffled when someone does it to me. Hypocritical, of course, but that doesn't stop me from doing it.

i only give thumbs down to people say something 1-untrue 2-racist, biggoted or prejudice or 3-totally irrational
