I believe this falls into the "give them an inch and they take a mile " category.

They figure the prospect of a 12+ million voting block will tempt the politicians.
Mexicans, due mainly to proximity and economic conditions in thier homeland do make up the majority of illegal immigrants. It only makes sense they'd also make up the majority of those protesting for special privileges for illegals, as well.
The incidents at McArthur Park may well have been provoked - not that the LAPD is exactly known for thier tremendous restraint...

Actually, it'a a good question. I really think they don't want citizenship. I think they mostly want to work here, send money home, go back and forth whenever they like and visit family in Mexico or wherever, and keep going like this forever.
And of course all the benefits of being here. That's what they want.
I haven't read the bill yet, and I don't think many senators have either. It may turn out to be OK, and if the Senate can add or revise to build the fence too, maybe it will be a good enough bill.
I think that amnesty is a bad policy.

To the previous answerer, if you do the research, and get the rock solid information, you will see that it will hurt our economy, us, our way of living (maybe in poverty?) more than it will help. The majority are here to work, save money, and send it all back to mexico, they have no intention of "making a life", the fact is, they hate us!
Why do they expect it? Because they know they can get it from our government and the people/citizens who should be running the government won't do a thing about it!

There were more cops injured than protestors, they prevented a riot.
The illegals are profitable for the rich, so we get these amnesty bills. We will stop this one just like the last one.

Because the United States spoils them, now they just expect everything given to them.

They expect it because we have historically done so. It has just gotten completely out of hand. I'm sure it is difficult to be living in the shadows but disregarding our laws is anarchy.

as long as they dont try to turn US into South/Central America, they can stay. When they start questioning why people dont speak spanish, it's time for them to leave.
