Well, most of you Christians (there seem to be many who frequent this site) will say that scientology is made up, so how are you so sure Christianity wasn't made up, just a long long time ago?

But Rob, Christian beliefs, though less absurd, are no more likely to be true... they just seem real because they are more familiar to you. I think that if words like thetans blah blah blah whatever Scientologists believe were words from a holy text that you believed had been in existance for centeries, were words that were in your vocabulary since you where born, and that you grew up hearing all the time and all of your family accepted as the truth, you would be a Scientologist.

Go ahead and tell yourself that John, I'm sure it is very comforting for you. Meanwhile Christianity continues to be in conflict with other religious beliefs and the world is falling apart and people keep looking to these ridiculous religious text instead of their empathy and innovation for answers. And many of you don't like Muslims, and I don't believe Christianity is any different from Islam either. Actually, it is a branch of it.

For now AJ, but right now Scientology is just a seedling. If it blossoms into a major belief system it will have blood on its hands too.

Do you mean "how are the doctrines different" or "how is Scientology considered a cult while Christianity is considered a bona fide religion"?
If you want to know how the doctrines differ, please click on this link and take a look at the answer:

If you want to know why Christianity is taken seriously while Scientology is waved off by most rational people as the scamming cult that it is, I guess it's like you said - Christianity has been around a long... long... LONG time. The story is pretty ridiculous, isn't it? So is the Scientology mumbo-jumbo. I guess the reason modern Christianity isn't considered a cult while Scientology is would be that Scientology qualifies and modern Christianity just... doesn't.
You can click here for a better understanding of why Scientology is considered a cult and then judge for yourself whether you think Christianity meets the criteria:

Can you please not snipe at other religions, in his case Christianity, by using Scientology.
It all comes under the heading of religious intolerance.
It's all part of mans inhumanity to man.
All religions have a basic idea and phiosophy to raise man up to a higher level of existence. The idea that he can is more than just an animal.
Probably the most critical point of attack on a culture is it's religious experience. Where one can destroy or undermine religious institutions then the entire fabiric of the society can be quickly subverted or brought to ruin.
For the last hundred years or so religion has been beset with relentless attack. You have been told it’s the “opiate of the masses “, that it’s unscientific, that it is primitive, in short , that it is a delusion, or made up.
The real source of this kind of attack is always covert and hidden. It is promoted by a few who have a vested interest in a slave society.
The key here is that underneath all these attacks on organised religion there is one fundemental target:
The spirituality of man, your own basic spiritual nature, self respect and peace of mind.
If man perverts his religion, promotes intolerance of other religions or uses it to control others, then this is man made.
This is the part that is made up by man.
The target is not the religion but the failiure of men to apply it to their lives to bring about a better world.

Scientology believes in reincarnation and that personal salvation in one's lifetime is freedom from the cycle of birth and death associated with reincarnation. They believe that religious practice of all faiths is the universal way to wisdom, understanding, and salvation. On the other hand, the Bible teaches that there is only one way of salvation and that is through Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6.
When one looks at the teaching of Scientology in comparison with the Bible, he will see that the two have little if anything in common. Scientology will only lead you away from God and eternal life, and the Bible will lead you to God and eternal life. There is nothing to gain by associating with scientology and everything to lose.

Maybe because Scientologists believe all their problems are due to their thetan levels, that aliens crash landed in a volcano, and the evil overlord Xenu is to blame...
