You finally realized the Bible was made up?
I know I was. I just recently realized and admitted, after some research, that the Bible was full of contridictions, fairy tales, and couldn't have been written by anyone other than a handfull of men. And I was really disgusted with the fact that a large fraction of this country lives by it, that I had practiced a religion based on it for years, and had encouraged others to practice it as well.
Did anyone have a similar feeling of disgust? How did you react?

A few of you had a point, it does have a lot of good lessons. I don't believe in the Bible, but I do think Jesus taught a lot of good things. It's a good story.

The Book was inspired. Of course it was written by men and women. It never has claimed anything else. Sounds like someone fed you a bunch of bull about the truth to fit their agenda and now you have had the lights turned on. But don't blame the message because of the messenger. if you did your research using the web then you haven't really done your research. I have discovered tons of nebulous sites that either go way too far in one direction or the other. You need to do some serious study on your own to discover the truth.
I don't know why some folks are so afraid to explore the Bible for what it is as an imperfect manifiestation of perfect truth. Sure, there are some contradictions but none concerning the meatier things of faith and life. If you did nothing but read and study intently the book of John you would be OK.

I wouldn't say that I was disgusted with it is still a good look to live by. It speaks alot of truth even relevant to now. Yes it has lots of contradictions but that is because it was written years after the time it claims to be in. You should read books by John Dominic Crossan or the book Excavating Jesus, they speak very intensly about interpretating it. Or Jonathan Reed who is a biblical archaeologist wrote a book called In Search of Paul and how Christianity got so huge. I wouldn't say that it is all made up because this guy has actually found real stuff that is in the bible, I know I actually talk to him frequently he is my professor. But really look for the information and you will have a deferent opinion. Yes many contradictions but I think you will find it interesting if you search for the reasons why or what true faith is even though I sound lame for saying that but I really think you would enjoy it and maybe find some answers you are looking for.

Discust would be a severe understatement. I felt RAGE and FURY. Because of those phonies who put it all together we are stuck in a world of sickness, WAR, and poverty. The world would be such a better place without all these beliefs in a God that is in the mind of man.
The creator should be viewed as an enigma because we don't know Jack. We should focus on what we know and change it when we find out more about what we don't know.
But I am glad I had the experience to be christian at one time. It lead me to where I am now. Which is right where I want to be. Free.

The Great Book of Fairy Tales. It's just a compilation of stories, written by men. Take it for what it's worth I guess.

Your absolutely right and as you can probably see all the ignorant people who wrote sarcastic answers to your question. The Bible ....The Quran like... and other silly books are like Santa claus and the Easter bunny but on a much larger scale!! When people are brought up there whole life to believe a certain way it's hard to think otherwise kinda like a security blanket as a child! We just have to learn to live with they're ignorance! Start worrying when they threaten to cut off our heads..... oh that's already started hasn't it!?

You belived in manmade religion not God which is out of order and not the plan of God. God requires a spiritual "Relationship"with him through his Son Jesus by the Holy Spirit. You need to pray to recieve their Holy Spirit otherwise you just have religion and hit a dead end that way.

I knew the Bible could not be divine when it clearly valued women less than men and girls less than boys. I was so disgusted I could not believe anything in it. It wasn't for a long time later that I studied its origins, and by then the shock had worn off.

I wasn't so much disgusted as disillusioned. I'd spent my young life believing in a faery tale that was the bible and chirstianity, but when I brought my questions to the religious leaders of my church, I was told that I was too young to understand (I was 11 years old at the time). So I picked up the bible and read it myself. When I brought contradictions to these people I was told I was "misinterpreting it" so I asked them to clarify the meaning of that particular passage, but was told that man isn't meant to understand god's great plan. At that point I started searching for truth. I found my own truth far from christianity.

I felt no disgust or regret. I feel like all of my life experiences, including mistakes, helped to teach me and make me what I am today. Instead, I feel very liberated now and I look back upon what Christianity was for me and how miserable it made me. As a Christian, I felt constant guilt over sins, constant anxiety about hell, and constant sadness for people in hell. Now that I've left the church, I feel free to be myself and answer to myself. I guess I enjoy this freedom more because I didn't have it as a child.

Yes I was when I first found out. I've known for a while, I'm not very religious but I do believe in God. I've known for a very long time that the bible was man written and the lord did not appear at night or whispered in anyones ear. I will ci=ontinue to believe in God but not in the bible. I respect in what anyones else believes in though.
