Can you install it yes...should you...probably not. If you are not certain how to do it I would highly reccomend you let a professional do it. If you cut the wrong wire, or attach the wrong wires, you could irreperably harm your electrical system which is VERY costly to repair! This is one area where I believe you get what you pay for. However, I would suggest you shop arround, that sounds quite expensive to instal a stereo. Good luck!

Basically, you have to worry about connecting two different kinds of power, ground, speakers, antenna, and secure the unit to the car. You will need to be able to identify which wire from the car is such wires, connect it properly and securely.
With hundreds of wires in the car, are you confident you can idenfy them? Do you know how and have the tools to connect wires? Twisting them together and taping them won't do. You will need crimping tools or soldering iron, and know how to use them.
As to what would happen if you do it wrong, the worse case senario is you will damage electrical components in the vehicle. Repair cost for such damage can be in thousands. The best case (when you do wrong) is that your stero won't work. Somewhere in the middle is, your damage your stereo.
Like anything else, it's easy if you know how to do it. BUT, if you don't, you can really make costly mistakes.
My suggestion is, either pay professionals some money and have it done or do it by yourself WITH SUPERVISION from someone who has done it few times.
Website or books won't help you much as each make and brand is different. There really isn't any standarization of colors when it comes to automotive wirings.
Good luck.

hello
i was like you one time had no clue at all on how to do this stuff but it is very easy. the easiest route would be to purchace a wirine harnice and mounting kit from your stereo shop or best buy etc, and then after that it is as simple as matching colours. should only cost 40 bux and a couple hours if u havent done it before. now i wire entire systems for friends and myself and have never had a problem just play around the worst that is gunna happen is blowing a fuse. be sure to disconnect the battery first though.

Not much, if you have a matched system. The only tricky bit is powering it up off of the fuse box.
You have to put it where the amperage won't blow the fuse. To make neat holes you might want to get a Dremel Tool, about $60. Draw all your cuts with chalk or soap. Practice on something else to get the hang of it. Your speakers must match the impedance of the amp (in ohms).
Radio Shack or Auto Zone can help.

Take it to someone who knows how to do it. The worst case condition is that you could burn the car up. More than likely, you will blow a fuse first and prevent any further damage. Cars have a bunch of electronics that are very sensitive, you don't wnat to mess up one of the computers in your car.
It may be cheaper in the long run just to pay and have it done right. good luck.
