No. It's because the bill was crafted in secret with no debate in Congress, and two, the steps which the illegals must take in order to become citizens is a slap in the face to every American in this country.

They had to lie to get the 80's amnesty. They said it was 2 million people... Turned out to be 6 million people. This time they're SAYING it's 14 MILLION... How many is it really???
THIS IS HUGE!!! Our country and our freedom are really at stake here!!! It's getting to the point of a race war... just after all kinds of treasonous legislation was passed for a totalitarian government in troubled times... They didn't pass this stuff for nothing. They really want to use it!!!
This kind of uncontrolled immigration will screw up any economy and culture. The middle class is suffering... The term "working poor" has come into common use... Yeah... That's what happens when you have to "compete" with 3rd world SLAVES in an illegally flooded labor market. SUPPLY AND DEMAND is the most basic rule of economics!!! Why do you think we have immegration laws? THEY MAKE SENSE AND PROTECT THE NATION AND THE CITIZENS. If any of this crap is fair to Americans... Why didn't they just allow more legal immigration? Why the deception? They created the "problem" and now it's so bad... the "solution" is what they wanted all along. Unlimited 3rd world cheap labor in the USA. This could have been stopped at any time by punishing the criminal employers of illegals. Don't be fooled!!! Don't give in to this crime and treason!!!
Allowing this foreign invasion of the USA was treason. It simply lowerered our wages and benefits by flooding the market with illegal cheap labor. It was just a way for corporations to criminally take what they used to pay Americans and put it in their profits column instead. And we also foot the tax burden created by these illegals and their illegal employers at the same time... Nice trick... WE WERE ROBBED BLIND!!!
These illegal invaders don't deserve amnesty and their criminal employers shouldn't be allowed to keep the cheap slaves they illegally used to steal from us. The immegration laws were there FOR A REASON and were treasonously not upheld. It was actually worse than that. This has really been an organized foreign invasion allowed by "our" government. THE WORST TREASON POSSIBLE!!!
FORGET AMNESTY FOR THE SLAVES AND THEIR TREASONOUS, THIEVING MASTERS!!! TIME TO ENFORCE OUR IMMIGRATION LAWS AND PUNISH THOSE WHO HIRE ILLEGALS. WHEN THEY CAN'T WORK... THE ILLEGALS WILL SIMPLY LEAVE. THAT'S THE REAL SOLUTION... DON'T BELIEVE WHAT THE TREASONOUS THIEVES ARE TELLING YOU!!! THEIR "SOLUTION" IS A LIE!!!

Because we have Lou Dobbs of CNN 'focusing on the issue' with 24/7 news that wasn't there in 1987.
And there's more controversy this time because our ignorant government just keeps doing it. And they do NOT enforce immigration laws and they won't even if this proposal is passed.

Lou, Rush, Bill O among others -
Makes no sense, this is a great example of the ignorance some people have on this issue - They should need to go after the people they help get elected that continue to create this kind of mess.
The few power families like the Cheney's in the U.S. have prostituted big business in the USA to become the leaders of the "New World Order" - by sending jobs overseas and strengthening the countries that always end up turning on us. So, in order to compete with India, Taiwan, China, and all the others - we in the USA have to accept slave wages that only the illegal immigrants are willing to take - in order to compete with this "new world economy" that the "Elite" manufactured. Racists continue vote for these "Elite" people, cause they think that they would help their "racist cause" - but these "Elites" only know 1 color - Green, and could careless about them, you, me or the illegal immigrants.

This is a much larger replay of the amnesty that was enacted in 1986. In that amnesty three million illegals were legalized, with false promises of a Democratic Congress to enact strict border security. Somehow they never got around to that part. This time they want to legalize twelve million people who broke the law, and they give us more empty promises of border security. It is probably an inevitability that this becomes law. Senate Republicans will cave, vainly believing that something will actually be done on enforcement, and Congressional Democrats will gleefully open up the border to every criminal, terrorist, and parasite all to continue the balkanization of America and get themselves more votes.

The bill you are talking about was called the Simpson-Rodino Immigration Law of 1986 and people had to prove they had been living and working in the U.S. for a certain number of years. If they were able to do so they were given documentation and permament residence here. Just in my community alone there were hundreds upon hundreds (maybe thousands) of people who had NEVER worked or lived in the U..S and they were able to buy and bribe agricultural foremen for letters of recommendation. Their papers were a farce. They asked family members for fake rent receipts. They bought their way in having never been here before. Many of those people took advantage of their newly appointed status and began working in U.S. and brought their families over here. While others are now collecting benefits from our taxes and are collecting social security even though they never worked here. (Legitimate social security numbers belonging to people who have given consent are freely passed out among friends and family members who work the fields, sometimes with the employer's knowledge, so that the number will accumulate benefits for retirement. Other times they are lent out to illegal residents with the understanding that the illegal person will collect the check he or she has worked, but the owner of the social security number will have the rights to collect the money when they do their income taxes.

because there are something like 5 times the number of illegals now than there were then. also, the enforcement promised in order to GET the previous amnesty was never carried out, so it's nothing more than a way to say they did something without actually DOING anything

Back in the 80s illegal immigration was happening but the amounts we're seeing today. It's tripled! People are also more "PC" these days so it's harder to deal with the problem today than back in 1987. It's also been 19 years since then so it's been constantly been happening and we're getting sick of it.
