The wierdest agrument I've heard for abortion is, "If I abort the kid, the kid will go to Heaven. Sending someone to Heaven is obviously a good deed, so I should go to Heaven also".
Now, I am not in any way promoting abortion, I'm Catholic in fact, but I find it difficult to provide a logical, rational explanation to combat the postulate above.
Can anybody answer? And please if you will, I'd appreciate a debate in logic rather than a "its wrong because I (or whomever else) say so" kind of answer.

Killing is a sin, regardless of where the killed person ends up in the afterlife. I suppose the baby does go to heaven according to Christian cosmology, but only because they were denied the opportunity to act upon the freewill they were given. It is not an "ends justifies the means" situation.

That being said, Christians have rationalized all sorts of reasons to ignore the rules they were given, especially when it comes to killing others. I don't doubt that this would be a very effective rationalization for anyone faced with the prospect of an unwanted child.

For the record, I am not Christian and pro-choice.

I know you are looking for a response for this argument but the truth is I can't give you one. And here's why. Have you ever seen a sane person arguing with a crazy person? Could you tell who was the sane person and who was the crazy person? If you start to argue with some one who is this emotionally charged on an issue you will never win.

You can not debate the abortion issue with a person who insists it is ok because the baby will go to heaven.

that is just insane. and you can't argue/debate/talk to an insane person.

sorry. I am also a catholic. and yes the catholic faith tells us abortion is wrong and I 100% believe that. But I know its wrong in my heart and soul. and as a woman who can not have a child this "the kid will go to heaven" argument is not only the weirdest but it is also the childest, an stupid reasoning I have heard.

OK- now that I am done with my rant, it is possible that this person may be perhaps feeling some guilt. If that is the case there are organizations out there who can help both women and men who suffer through guilt after going through an abortion. Your parish office can help you locate such an organization near you.

I hope that I have helped. and didn't get on my soapbox too much.

While abortion is not a desirable choice, not having that choice is even worse. Not many women are in the habit of going for abortion when they please. Most make an informed decision. And those teenagers who end up in abortion clinics due to some panic anyway should have that abortion - they are too immature to be a mom.

Having a kid or not, is not only an emotional decision, it is also an economic one. Therefore, parents should have the right to decide. Just becuase a prophylactic broke does not mean that a couple has to be responsible for that action. And then there are special circumstances of incest rape etc.

Our society, is a capitalist one, where well-being of the child is up to the family. Parents have to provide food, bread, education to their kids. So, if they are in the position of providing a good upbringing and education to a few kids, as opposed to providing poor upbringing and education to a lot of them, they should have the choice to decide what they want to do.

There are some situations, where abortion has to be monitored. In India, for example, due to the practice of dowry, female featus are aborted - everyone wants a son in India. Where we have these kinds of social problem, abortion has to be regulated, but in most western countries, abortion should be legal, and safe.

Soytainly as "Joe" of "Stooges" fame would say! In Genesis 2:7 we see what is involved in creating Human Beings as it states; "Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being." Therefore until God imputes that "Breath of Life", there is only "Biological Life" in the Womb! When God does impute the "Breath of Life", he also Imputes Original Sin that is laying dormant in the Genetic makeup of the "Biological Life" until it is a Human Being. This is why a stillborn fetus has no Soul and no Sin can be Imputed to it! Does this Justify Abortion as a form of "Birth Control"??? God Forbid!!! However our "Arrogant Christian Immoral Degeneracy" has placed itself in such an "Emotional State" that they try to Play God in Judging what should be between God & the Woman, NO ONE ELSE!!! As U are Catholic, I need to cut U some slack concerning "Works / Good Deeds" as I know U may have never been exposed to this concept before. I Cor. 3:12&13 says; "your works are as wood, hay & stubble that when tested by fire are consumed!" Isiah 64:6 says; "your works are as filthy rags!" (Hebrew here is menstrual rags) So what U do for God is NOT the ISSUE because it can NEVER, be as Great as what Christ has done!!! Only the belief in Christ's work on the Cross & Accepting it, sends U to Heaven!!! That said, in Ur example the "Person" who made the statement to U is Wrong !!! John

As some one before me said.. "god gives life and to take it away is an abomination" if god has a plan fo rus all, wasn't it gods intention for the child ot be aborted?
i believe in teh goods and bads of it. that child will never get a life or a chance, but lets not forget thats not the only way to look at it. say the woman who got pregnant was a 15 year old girl who got raped. she was extremley intelligent, college bound, and an all around good kid. if she has the child, it most likley will ruin her life and her future. is a rapist going to stick around and pay for child support. is that same rapist going to provide a loving enviroment for the child to grow up in? if she did have an abortion she would most likley still go to college. she could do wonderful things, she could teach or develop a cure for dieses. she could meet a wonderful man and raise a family, children for the one she had to let go. If the baby never knew life, is can not be a sin to take it away. Sometimes it may even be necessary.

I can only answer this way, so here it goes- we have no right to kill a baby so that they will be in heaven. That totally is ridiculous. We are not the one to judge who goes to heaven or not. If your statement was true, Jesus would not have had to die- we would just continue to abort babies, or pray they die before they get to the age of accountability. That is totally misusing the grace of God- don't you agree. I think the worst argument I heard just yesterday was this- "did you hear about the man who burned his baby in a microwave?, that is why abortion is sometimes better then the child would not have had to die this way." let us grow up and say abortion really is-

It's foolish justification for murder. The statement attempts to make murder okay because their sending a baby to heaven, as if its an act of mercy. By that logic, we should all have mass suicides and murders to mercifully free us from our mortal toils and into the glorious fold of heaven.

Just go back to the basic definition of life and Who gave it to us. Life comes from God. It's a gift. We do not own it. Therefore, we do not have the right to decide when it starts and when it ends. That's up to God. That's why all deliberate, malicious acts that result in the ending of life are called murder. Abortion is that type of act. It's not mercy.

God bless.

That is the strangest thing I've ever heard. However, if you look at the statistics, more Catholic women are having abortions than you would expect, based on how many Catholic women there are in the country. This is particularly surprising given the very vocal pro-life stance many Catholics espouse. Perhaps that whole anti-birth control thing has a downside.

A logical answer to that is that the mother should 'put up or shut up' and be 'terminated' with the baby. Let's see how many stick to this viewpoint with that as a condition.

By the way, I am not saying that abortion is never neccessary or that it is ever right, just that this particular argument is.... Well words fail me, actually.

I agree with you (I'm a practicing Catholic, too.) There's no way it's a good deed because when you abort a child, you're really killing it. Just keep praying for the unborn children, their mothers, and the doctors (murderers) at abortion clinics. God Bless You!
