My favorite would probably be Richard Dawkins. Not only is he eloquent, clear, and brilliant, but he has contributed a great deal to how we understand evolution, biology and science in general. He is the guy who finally made evolution click for me, when it all suddenly made sense.
After that I would probably have to go with either Sam Harris or Richard Carrier, leaning towards Richard Carrier as he exceptionally rational, well spoken, intelligent and knowledgable. Just find his essays with a google search and you'll see some of the most well constructed arguments available.
I should mention that Darwin never converted to christianity on his deathbed, that was a lie perpetuated by an evangelical who claimed to visit him. It was thoroughly discredited by Darwin's family (who really were there the whole time) as well the hospital staff, yet the stupid rumor still persists because christians want to believe it.

Mark Twain is a good choice, though I tend to go for scientists, like: Albert Einstein, Richard Feynman, Roger Penrose, and Steven Weinberg.
Edit: I forgot Richard Dawkins.

This from the UK - so you may not know the name.
Antony Wedgewood-Benn.
He is now a very aged chap - possible late 70's - and was very active in the Labour party of the 1960 and 70' - and in fact still has a voice today.
His ideas are absolutely against everything I believe in but I adore his reasoning!
