Wet paint is much more interesting, it brings out "I wonder if they'll get mad that I ruined the paint job..." With God there are more details to be discussed.
It's because wet paint is more simple than a God.

I too would react the opposite way. No Gods for me, and no touching of wet paint spots.

Well, if you touch the wet paint, the wet paint doesn't send you to hell for not believing in it.

I will run pascal on the paint. I have no need to touch it. I yell at people to get theirs hands of the walls all of the time. Paint doesn't need to be touched even after it dries.

Because it's easier to see the here and now. Than to have faith and listen to God. (That takes effort, touching paint doesn't).

wet paint is tangible therefore you do not have to take it on Faith alone. Hot stoves are tangible too and I got burnt everytime someone told me not to touch.

Because there are 2 types of people...
1. They believe everything they are told, and never think for themselves.
2. They question everything, and use their brain..

Because when you are told that there is a God or something like that you can feel a supernatural presence in the air around you that there wasn't before and thats how you know its true

For me, it's the opposite.
Though I will sometimes intentionally leave a fingerprint in the paint if it looks to be tacky.
