I've heard you get a free one for your first best answer and another every 500 points so is this right?

hello there, yes you are correct you do receive a free one in the mail but first you have to sign up here http://better.yahoo.com/answers/ enter your address and such and they will send you a totebag, also you will get a light bulb for your first best answer in environmental. every 500 points (you get 75 for every best answer here and 10 for other categories) will get you more prizes. hope this helps good luck! =]

The rules are a bit complicated, and even finding them is hard. See the link below.
Summary:
1. First you have to register, including your full mailing address.
2. After you register, you have to get a best answer (in ANY category) to get a free Compact Fluorescent light bulb.
3. Contest expires June 13, so you need to get a best answer before then.
4. You can earn extra bulbs by earning "green credit" points, but they aren't the regular Yahoo Answers points. You get 10 green credits if you get a best answer in any category, 75 green credits if you get a best answer in Environment, 10 green credits each time you use your phone to do a yahoo onesearch (max 50 day), and 100 green credit for doing a "raise your hand" pledge (max one time.)
5. The raise your hand pledge also gets you a free CFL bulb all by itself.
6. For the onesearch from mobile phones, you have to search on specific items and jump through other hoops, read the rules carefully, but it looks like you will get a bulb for the first time you do it, plus the green points towards extra bulbs for extra searches.
7. Your green points also count towards your city's total (based on your mailing address) for which city will get 10 free hybrid taxis.
8. If you participate and are at level 2, or reach level 2 by June 13, you will also get a free tote bag.
9. This is funny - the confirm email from Yahoo for registering for be a better planet went right into my yahoo mail's bulk mail (spam) folder! They're calling their own mail spam!
10. If this doesn't earn me a 'best answer', nothing will.

yes, but you have to do it before 6/31/2007 or else the green points system will expire.
i actually got 7 best answers in the last week.
i got screwed.
