What are the signs for a diabetic cat? My cat drinks water nonstop and is grossly overweight but she hasn't acted strangely lately or sickly.

Symptoms include but are not limited to: Drinking more, urinating more, weight loss, increased appetite, dehydration, plantigrade posture (walking on their hocks), and sudden cataract formation.

If diabetes remains uncontrolled the animal may become ketotic - cells begin to use fat as fuel for energy production, ketone bodies then begin to accumulate in the blood. If your cat is ketotic it may have these additional symptoms: depression, weakness, vomiting, rapid breathing, and the breath may have an odor of acetone to it. If your cat has any of these symptoms see your veterinarian immediately.

Generally diabetic cats start to lose weight- just like type 1 human diabetics.

My vet says there is no such thing as a type 2 diabetic cat- I have not checked any vet websites- but if you do let me know!

Increased thirst, urination, and obesity could be either diabetes or kidney failure. You'll need to go and get a blood test to find out.

.
Cats can live a long healthy, happy life with either

There is a prescription food that can really help out diabetic cats. -Ask your vet.

And does she pass large amounts of Urine too? Large clumps in the litter box.? Does she seem hungry all the time? and after eating does she sleep a lot? The Vet can take her blood just like a person and determine if she is diabetic by whether her blod glucose levels are normal or not. And yes they can be put on Insulin like a human with shots every day. Good Luck

I don't know if your cat has diabetes, I'd need to do a blood glucose check to find out!

Your cat does have the signs of diabetes - drinking a lot is a classic symptom, and being obese commonly results in diabetes.

Please take your cat to the vet to have her treated.

That's one of the first signs. Put the cat on a diet right away (feed it 2x a day only, 2 tbsps. of canned food and a handful is more than enough) and take it to the vet ASAP, okay? Time is of the essence, and please do not overfeed your cats in the future!!! It is abuse!!!
