How come if God exists he didn't protect my godfather/uncle from dying this past Mother's day in a motorcycle accident? How come he didn't prevent the truck from hitting him off of his motorcycle? How come he didn't stop any of my loved ones who have died over the years?

Some people believe that God reveals Himself to us each and every day of our lives.
Whenever we watch the sun rise or set, hear the song of a bird in the tree outside our window or the sound of distant thunder, smell the fragrance of wildflowers in springtime, or feel a baby’s fist wrapped around our finger when taking those first steps… whenever these things happen we are witnessing a miracle.

I do not believe that God wants anyone to suffer; whether physical pain or mental and emotional anguish. That is not the God I know. Yet evil things happen in this world. No one can deny that. This problem has plagued theologians for centuries. Some have suggested that God must not be powerful enough to prevent bad things from happening. Others have said that perhaps God is powerful enough, but is not genuinely concerned with human suffering and therefore does nothing. I reject both of these ideas.

The hardest job I have ever had has been that of a father. I won’t say that I’ve done that good a job. No excuses here, but it’s tough knowing the right things to say and do in situations I never expected to deal with. And so I know there have been times when I’ve blown it. But if there was a time when I got it right, it was probably when my teen-aged kids came to me wanting to borrow the car for Prom. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that a lot of stuff goes on during and after Prom. And sadly, many young people are hurt or lose their lives every year during that time. My first instinct was to tell my kids, “NO! Forget about Prom! I’m locking you in your room until after it’s all over!” My first instinct – to keep my kids safe at all costs – would have been the right one had they been little children. But they weren’t. And holding them back from being able to make choices, whether good ones or bad ones, would have been holding them back from an opportunity to grow into adulthood.

Here’s what I did. I talked to them and explained my fears and concerns. I cautioned them. I offered to come and get them, no questions asked, if they ended up in an unsafe condition to drive. And then I gave them the keys. Because to have done otherwise would have prevented them from being able to make their own decisions. It would have prevented then from growing up.

Okay, here’s the key to all of this. I think God is in the same situation. God *can* keep us always safe, but then we never grow up, never become responsible human beings. Are there risks associated with this? You bet there are! The same ones every parent faces while hoping that their own children make the right decisions… and that the people around them do, too. Sometimes people are hurt or killed through no fault of their own. Sometimes another person is responsible. Sometimes accidents happen that no one could have predicted. And in those times, I believe that God cries with us. Which is what Jesus did when he learned that his friend Lazarus had died.

The other thing about God that I would like to remind you of is this; every religion tells us that life on this Earth is not the end. I don’t know your religious up-bringing, but I would guess that you grew up hearing someone close to you talking about a life after this life. People disagree on what that may be like, but most agree that we will have an opportunity to live on in some manner, and maybe we will even be reunited with our loved ones who have preceded us. That’s something to be hoped for.

God has proved himself many times, if you open your eyes you can see that, and God IS NOT Jesus, why people keep saying that?
when things go wrong people always expect God to sort ou the problem, but why should God do that, we made the mess so we should clean it up, you say about the truck, well sorry if the person was hurt, but how was this Gods fault, why should he stop our mistakes, how are we to learn by them if God comes along and solves the problem, and as much as it hurts our loved have to pass on, man should look in the mirror before casting the blame

I don't know if you'll catch this will all the responses, but here it goes...
Here's why...(this won't be word for word of course)
Remember that little Sunday school story about Lucifer getting kicked out of Heaven with his little followers? Remember God told him that if he wants to rule something he can go rule earth for a while. Remember part of that study referred to Sodom and Gomorrah?
Well, God is FULLY hands-off right now. He's letting the world do it's thing. God doesn't DO anything or prevent anything. When the world goes too bad (just like in Sodom and Gomorrah) then he'll return and clean the place up.
Until then, Satan is in command.
Y'all better do some studying before the thumbs down and not just in YOUR notes. Use the whole library.

God chooses how & when we die. We have no control over that. I lost my 5 month old granddaughter 5 years ago & I know it was her time to go home. God is making a bouque & He wants only the beautiful flowers. Maybe your uncle had an illness & God wanted to spare him any suffering. Maybe it's just because your uncle's work here was done. Now he's looking down on you. Feel comfort in knowing that God chose him. I hope you can get past your anger with God. God bless & take care.

Because he has already proven his existence through the lives of his people. I'm sorry about the deaths you've gone through, but I truly believe everything happens for a reason. Maybe they went now so that something worse didn't happen later. I don't know, all I know is that I've trusted him through rough times that didn't make sense and I've seen others come to know Christ because of it, and I've grown stronger. There is a great book called--when God doesn't make sense--by James Dobson you could read. It will help. You can get it through Christian bookstores, probably some regular bookstores or amazon.com

It is sometimes hard for those left behind to believe God has a plan. The pain of loosing someone is often so fierce it masks the thought that God's plan is not always for here but sometimes for the hereafter.

I lost a very very dear friend recently. A few hours later when the massacre at VTech happened I understood that God needed my friend to help those kids who were suddenly taken from us on Earth. She was the best choice to help greet them at His pearly gates.

Witnessing birth is the truest proof of a higher being for me. What God puts on this Earth has a reason and a time.

I'm very sorry for your loss and I realize that mere words can't even come close to easing the pain you feel. Take comfort in the loved ones around you that can give you the hugs I am sending you. Contact me if you like and we can discuss your question. I don't want to post an answer in public.

i feel the same way many times!but it was predicted that god would not interfere with us earthlings...that's why he sent his son,to leave a message..that there is hope...for what?everlasting life is all i would want to hope for!what if we have to die first before we find everlasting life?what if we die first and there is another earth and he's living there with all the other good people who have died..and they're having a grand ole time?i don't believe for one minute that this was meant to be!!everything has a purpose..and some people are just unlucky to have died earlier than expected!but to end there?!no,i don't believe it!i believe he has gone somewhere better...even if it is too hard for us to understand!!my heart goes to your sorrow!!

its the circle of life. Its ment to happen. you cant change the world. and have you heard of the bible? even if god comes out says "hey, im god!!" there would still be the people saying "psh... no way!!!" you need faith to beileve something. kind of like my saying "you cant change the world, just the people on it" and "it is immpossible to prove anything" i swear you cant prove anything. and god kind of did when my mom went to be with her grandma, and one night she and her sisters and her mom and her sisters herd her say "no, im not ready yet... just a little while longer" and she strted discribing what it was like. but she did not remember anything after she woke up. you just need faith.
