Why is Christianity a bad example of Christ teachings?

Should the focus of Christianity not be the Gospel of Jesus?

Why is everything in the Bible taken litterally?

When we receive a package we unwrap it to get at the contents. Christianity is a gift from God, but instead of receiving the gift, we have undertaken to wrap it up, and each generation has furnished a new wrapping around the others. (Soren Kierkegaard)

They all claim to preach the gospel. There is only one truth right? That means that a whole bunch of people are wrong. Christianity is a set of beliefs that are supposed to represent the teachings of Christ, we just can't agree with what those teaching were in their entirety.

The same reason why there are thousands of academic colleges: because they each have a different idea on what's the best way to go about things.

Some sects focus more on faith, some more on works, some are Biblical literalists, some see tradition has being important, some see the Bible as not a history book but rather a communications book, some emphasize different parts of the Bible over others. When you have a 1700+ year-old book with passages that are widely open to speculation and interpretation, you're bound to have different ideas.

There are so many denominations for several reasons. (1) Each denomination has a slightly different doctrine or emphasis from the others. (2) As people started churches, they simply gave them different names. (3) Denominations are good in that if you attended a Baptist church in one town, and then moved to another town, you could attend a similar Baptist church in the new town. The Lutheran denomination was named after Martin Luther. The Methodists got their name because their founder, John Wesley, was famous for coming up with “methods” for spiritual growth. Presbyterians are named for their view on church leadership - the Greek word for elder is "presbyteros." Baptists got their name because they have always emphasized the importance of baptism.

We, as believers, must believe the same on the essentials of the faith, but beyond that there is great latitude in how a Christian should worship, serve, and live his life. This latitude is what causes so many different flavors of Christianity. Diversity is a good thing, but disunity is not. If two churches disagree doctrinally, it is fine that they remain separate. This separation, though, does not lift the responsibility Christians have to love one another (1 John 4:11-12) – and ultimately be united as one in Christ (John 17:21-22).

First off, it had a lot to do with Martin Luther posting those 99 complaints on the catholic church door. Then because of the printing press the bible became more readily available and people came up with their own interpretations.
Christianity should come from the New Testament (and the Old), because they contain the gospel of Jesus Christ.
And as far as "wrapping it up" look up Romans 1:16, which says not to be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why the denominations? Because there is room for disagreement in the minor things, and in other larger differences; some of the denominations are way "off" and I just can't hang with them.

I think the Gospel is the focus . . .

Not everything is taken literally . . .

I do not know Kieregaard . . . and I am very happy with some of the "new" translations and "new" interpretations. We all do the best we can, with Gods Grace.

There is only One form of Christianity, so I think U refer to "Religion" no? Some things in Scripture are meant to be taken "Literally" and some not. Proper Exegesis demands taking into consideration, the local customs, political situations etc. to "Rightly Divide the Word of God"! Christianity was all about a One on One relationship with Christ, NOT ANY CHURCH'S DOGMA!!! John

People identify everything through their own cultural beliefs. This is what creates different denominations. Over history as cultures grow and changed, so has the perceptions of their religions. It is changing even now. 30 years from now, Christianity will look different than it does today. It looks different now than it did 100, 200, 500, and 1000 years ago.

People take the bible literally because they fail to have the willingness to do the one thing God intended...Think for themselves.

Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father but by Him. God says what He means and means what He says. The devil knows his time is so very short and he is the master deceiver who has done a masterful job at creating all these different denominations with one agenda.. to keep you from attaining true Salvation. Baptist, catholic, presbyterian, pentecostal, etc. can't save you. Only a life centered on and trusting in Jesus can lead you to heaven.

Because there are so many kinds of people. It is hard to get two people to agree on one thing. Put millions together and it is impossible to agree. People contruct their own reality in their own minds. Reality for one person is not reality for another. If it were, one religion would be enough. But you are bound to have disagreements over meaning of texts and rituals. This is true of all religions. There are always more than one sect unless it is a new religion and/or cult like Scientology.
